Replace S-7

Post by michiganjim » Fri Dec 20, 2019 11:07 am

I've been using a CPAP 25+ years and gone through several machines. 15 yrs ago, I lost 100 lbs and discontinued using it. 4 yrs later I gained i back. In the last year, I am down 80 lbs and feel I could stop using it again. An obstacle is swollen turbinates which block the air flow. I'm not crazy about having someone ream out my nose, but i probably have to do something.

Hopefuly, after my nose is fixed, I can ditch the machine. However, there's a catch, I can't just stop using on my own. I need a sleep text to prove I don't need it per MI dept of transportation. A yearly physical is needed for commercial drivers license to drive a school bus. Since sleep apnea diagnosis is on my record, I must prove I use machine via a dump of usage report.

The final twist is my current S7 lightweight has developed problem with on/off button". It's been getting worse and almost impossible to turn on/off. I finally removed rubber button and use ball point pen to push little contacts, which is marginally better.

Will pushing with pen continue to work until I can get off the machine or will it croak completely and I have to get a replacement. Although covered by Medicare, the process sucks whereby govt pays $110+ "rent" a month and I pay $10 a month for 13 months. Duh, that's $1,560 "RENTAL" for a damn machine that probably can be bought online for $500. @#$#@#@ govt corruption. Somebody is making a bundle off our taxes.

OK, aside from rant, I see several machines online, can buy a used Resmed Airsense 10 for $120 with 4037 hrs on it. Questions:

Does this model suffer from the same button failure where you have to push real hard to get it to come on?
Will I be able to adjust my own pressure like I do my S7 without having to mess with my local supplier?
Will I be able to print out a usage report without screwing around with a sleep apnea doctor (this in case I continue to use it and need report for next year DOT physical)?
Anything else I need to know about buying a used Airsense 10?

I've never used a humidifier if that has any impact on what I buy?

I hardly consider a device that is approaching 15 years old, and suffering from button failure as a design or manufacturing flaw.

I don't recall seeing any reports of button failure on the the Airsense 10 line.

Yes

The Resmed Airsense 10 support uploading of data to MyAir and reports can be printed out. Ensure your particular machine cellular modem is compatible with the local cellular systems.

They also support the uploading of data to a computer and importing into third party software for printing. Depending on specific model number the data may be limited to only compliance.

I don't know if these reports are acceptable for DOT compliance.

Get an Airsense 10 AutoSet or AutoSet for Her.

All AirSense 10 support humidifiers, if you don't want to use one, you can use an option side cover.

Actually it is the USMedical system corruption, all Medicare has to say with this is "no, were not paying $5000 for that machine.

The only govt corruption is that they're letting the medical system fleece us like they do.

Get your facts straight.

Every day I go to dialysis, they try to bullshit bill Medicare $5500. Medicare says "you'll take $400 and like it". But the medical people keep trying.

Ps, you probably ballooned back up because you stopped CPAP.

Where did you get that information? Medicare only pays $40 per month. That plus your $10 copay for 13 months equals $650 for owning the machine.

Maybe as many as half of the patients getting a CPAP quit using it quickly. Thus, Medicare saves money by renting to own.

I think we're wasting our time responding to this guy.

He's a Hit'n'Run artist.

Creates a single post, ignores responders and any questions to him, and just disappears. He's done it every topic.
