leaving Medistrom battery plugged in to my CPAP machine
leaving Medistrom battery plugged in to my CPAP machine
Good morning! I bought a Medistrom battery for my CPAP machine during the summer - just in time for electricity to go out due to a thunderstorm and then Dorian. I was grateful for the battery, that's for sure! I leave my machine plugged in all the time (unless I need to take it when I travel) and am keeping the battery plugged in to the machine - so it is always ready in case of a power outage. My question: Am I doing any damage to the battery? Hope not because it's reassuring knowing that my CPAP will keep working if there were an outage while I was asleep. Thanks!

You are reducing the life of your batteries.
Rechargable batteries have a limited number of discharge/charge cycles. By continuously drawing from battery you are reducing its usable life.

That depends on whether the charger is able to provide e ough current for the CPAP throughout the night, if it can, then the battery doesn't discharge...Dog Slobber wrote: ↑Tue Nov 05, 2019 10:26 amYou are reducing the life of your batteries.

The Medistrom battery is designed to operate as a UPS. The original Resmed AC-DC brick operates the machine and maintains the battery charge.
Medistrom does offer a DC-DC charger of their own (sold separately), but I think that one is NOT designed to operate the machine.

Thanks, everyone! I'll unplug my battery and hope that I have enough forewarning about power outages.

Then the UPS is the way to go!ragtopcircus wrote: ↑Tue Nov 05, 2019 11:09 amThe Medistrom battery is designed to operate as a UPS. The original Resmed AC-DC brick operates the machine and maintains the battery charge.

Especially for those in areas of power uncertainty.

The only downside to UPS, is the cost to get the run time needed. Tying it to a Deep Cycle Battery can solve that problem, but thats like a cart pulled by a pony, when a cart pulled by a horse in the first place makes more sense. The caveat is, if you use the humidifier, the Medistrom won’t be enough to go all night.chunkyfrog wrote: ↑Mon Nov 11, 2019 7:44 pmThen the UPS is the way to go!ragtopcircus wrote: ↑Tue Nov 05, 2019 11:09 amThe Medistrom battery is designed to operate as a UPS.
