How long do machines last?

Post by sinclaj » Mon Feb 26, 2007 11:49 am

I've been on CPAP for 2 years, and have a Goodnight 420G. How long do these machines last? Last night my machine started making a high-pitched whine or whistle. It is coming from the machine itself, not the mask, host, humidifier or connector.

ANyone have any experience with this, what should I do? The machine still works, but I'm not sure if I can sleep well with this noise.

The Goodnight 420G has a two year warranty. Check to see if yours is still in effect.

The CPAP should last a long time. My 420G makes a different sound than my Respironics machine. You could call it a whistling sound but it doesn't really bother me. Not sure if we're talking about the same sound.

There is no meaningful answer to this.
How long do marriages last?
Gow long do cars last?
How long do perple last?

The answer is highly variable. Some people report machines still working after 12-14 years.
I had one to last about 10 years, one lasted about 2+ years

I would imagine companies have a figure on this but doubt it is of help since so many simply get a new machine and the company never knows about it.
a MTBF- mean time between failure is what you are looking for, but even this would be meaningless on a particular machine.

Wrote too long- said to much-
quick answer- nobody knows fpr sure

If you have a local DME supplier take it into them and have them check it over. It could be bearings or seals. Hopefully, you still have the paperwork from when your first got it to verify if it is still under guarantee or not. If it is past warranty and you purchased it via insurance and/or have insurance now you will need proof of its "demise" in order to qualify for a replacment paid for by them. If all else fail it may be that an order from your doctor that your needs have changed may get you a new machine.

Correct me if I'm wrong but I think someone posted recently that their old "Tank" model had about 35,000 hours - about 15 years?

I believe someone did say that.... but I can't remember who.

I'll be thrilled if mine lasts half that long.
