qualifying for a new sleep study
qualifying for a new sleep study
It's been four years since my first study , and I feel generally worse because I have not been able to go all the way with treatment. My average CPAP usage time is a little over 4 hours per night. This includes nights of 5-6 hours, but also nights of 2-3 hours where I screw up and don't get the mask back on. Do I qualify for a new follow up sleep study? I am not sure what type of night I will have - does the technician intervene if I remove my mask? I guess it might be a "split study" .

If you don't use your XPAP, everytime you plan on sleeping, all night every night a sleep study won't help much! If you don't use the data your machine can provide with a program like Oscar, you are missing out of a Free Sleep Study every night!
After four years it's time to get with the program, with data people here can help you. Jim
Another sleep study can't make you do your part in the treatment.

I feel your pain, I get it when I have to agree with some of your posts also, I don't faint, it more of a deep throbbing in the forehead. Re: qualifying for a new sleep study
If your machine is set on straight pressure instead of Auto, you are missing out on all those free sleep studies.

Re: qualifying for a new sleep study
Is there a particular reason why you are not using the treatment all of your sleep hours? If you are unmasking while asleep, put some tape or a bandage across the straps onto the face so that the discomfort of pulling it off will wake you. If you are knowingly choosing to unmask and go back to sleep, try to figure out why. Is your mask uncomfortable or leaking? Is your treatment sub therapeutic causing you feel the need to remove the mask? You can find that out with your machine data as previously mentioned. Once you determine your treatment is optimized, it will be up to you to determine to stay masked up. I think another sleep study is premature. Not saying it couldn't at some point be helpful, but if you first do those things you know to do, it's likely a study won't be needed. Until that happens is there any reason to think you'll do anything different with any new knowledge a sleep study might provide? Good look getting your treatment on a better track.

What kinds of results do you see when you look at the little report on the machine in the morning or look at MyAir, if you use it?

Re: qualifying for a new sleep study
Ideally, you should be using CPAP everytime or sleep or nap and for the whole time.
In addition to what everybody else said, which if the following do you find to obstacles to this objective?:
1) The mask hurts, itches, or is somehow uncomfortable.
2) The pressure "feels" too high or too low.
3) Air blows uncomfortably to another place (such as you eyes).
4) Sinus or chest pain associated with use.
5) Some sort of phobia or embarrassment associated with use.
6) You find the noise of the machine annoying.
7) Something else (please articulate).

It's been 10 years since... well, actually, I never had a sleep study, a friend knew I had apnea, bought a machine on craigslist, and said "figure it out and wear it".... and here I am.LSAT wrote: ↑Fri Oct 18, 2019 9:56 amIt's been 11 years since my only sleep study...If you use an Autoset machine and follow your therapy on Oscar software, they are not needed.davep700 wrote: ↑Thu Oct 17, 2019 11:47 amIt's been four years since my first study , and I feel generally worse because I have not been able to go all the way with treatment.
