need help with dreamwear full face mask

Post by connieg » Mon Sep 30, 2019 10:02 pm

I recently tried the Dreamwear Full Face Mask, and the gale force wind that went up my nose was so unpleasant that I took it off. I'm told many people use these with great success, so I wondered what I was doing wrong. I am new to CPAP, using an S9 with an F20 mask for the last month or so. My success has been amazing, with great results in the way I feel. But the F20 mask has a high leak rate unless I tighten it up to an uncomfortable point. I had thought the Dreamwear might work better, but I couldn't tolerate it. Any suggestions?

If you are new to CPAP, how is it that you are using the S9 machine? It has not been manufactured since 2014

Because I loaned it to her.

I thought perhaps a DME slipped her an old machine.

She doesn't have insurance.
DIYing it with PR's help. Extremely limited funds.
I sent her the only two full face masks that I had.

Anyone got a different full face mask that they want to donate to her? My donations box is next to empty in terms of just about any complete masks. All I got is bits and pieces now of anything.

I rather liked (as much as I might like a FFM) the DreamWear FFM and didn't experience any gale force winds with it at all so I am no help with that mask.

Nope... I wanted her to post here about the dreamwear mask fitting issues, because I've never tried it, so I have zero idea in how to make them fit well.

I know lots of people love 'em, and I want her to have the option of using it, but her first attempt was .... not good.

But, it's a complicated mask and I think I've heard it takes some fiddling to get right, so I hope some folks with experience with it, will jump in here.

I am thinking the gale force winds were because the mask wasn't ever sealed to start with and it was trying too hard.
It's the only thing I can think of to explain it.

Thanks so much for everyone's help and advice. I would like to have another go at the Dreamwear, but I thought I might be doing something horribly wrong, so I wanted some other users' input. Even though CPAP has absolutely transformed my life, I want to make sure I can make all the improvements possible.

Frame size is very important for Dreamwear mask... Full face and nasal as well. Once you get the right frame , it should be better. But if you're like me, you may need MAD or collar cervical to avoid jaw drop and large leak. If you're able to breath trough your nose, you could buy only the nasal cushion for the Dreamwear to test it as nasal mask. Good luck.

Did she watch Jason's video with the DreamWear FFM?
I am thinking it has to be something related to fitting.

I don't know, I'll dig up the link tonight, unless you have it handy.
