Does anybody know which keys to press to get into the programing of the machine/ I want to turn the auto start on so when you put the mask on and the first breath you take starts the machine and when you take the mask off it stops in about 15 seconds,
When I got the machine the tech. pressed the keys in a perticular order to get at the set up menu ... I can get at the basic menu but the set up seem s to be off limits unles you know how
Programing the Resmed S8 elite
Well, if your e-mails to them were asking about access to the Set Up menu and how to change your settings they didn't respond simply because that is information and access the majority of the medical profession doesn't want the patient to have access to.
For instance, your local DME supplier couldn't even make that SmartStart access available to you unless your ordering doctor provided them w/an order to do so. They can only make the settings your doctor has ordered.
If your local DME's Respiratory Therapist had been one of the smarter ones he/she would NOT have let you see him/her set the machine and you wouldn't know that the settings were changed via the buttons. At least not until you found this forum .....
I'm sure someone will PM you shortly w/the button combination needed to activate your S8's SmartStart. When they do, I would strongly suggest that BEFORE you attempt to make ANY changes, you have a pen and paper handy and write down all the information on EACH screen you access and go thru each screen before you go thru a second time and actually make any changes.
While I DO like the SmartStart feature for starting my Elite when I put my mask on, I do NOT like how long it takes to turn itself off when I take my mask off. My pressure is only 8 but it sounds like a wind tunnel when I take my mask off and I'm not so sure that it also doesn't affect my data taking so long to shut off. Maybe it is just that I am a "control freak" or something but I ALWAYS use the button to turn my machine off BEFORE I take my mask off.
I LIKE my Elite. I LIKE the good size, easy to read LED screen. Were you given access to the Advanced patient menu that allows you to check your Efficacy Data? Your average Pressure, Leak rate, AHIs, AIs, HIs; and the Usage Data? Your nights used, hours used and hours used that night? Your local DME's RT can't even give you access to that Advanced patient menu w/o an order from your ordering physician.
The button combo for access to the Efficacy and Usage Data is to push the Left and Right buttons down and hold for 3-4 seconds. After that the key sequence is pretty much self-explanatory: Left button to change the screen, up and down buttons to navigate thru that selection and the Right button to Exit that screen or menu.
The kicker is that you must access this information BEFORE noon as these machines work on a 24 hour, noon to noon, clock. At noon it moves that data over to the collective averages and that individual night's data is no longer available via the LED screen tho it is still in the machine's memory for 4-5 days and in the collective averages until the machine's memory is erased.
When I had problems w/my Elite and Humidaire 3i and contacted Resmed they responded immediately, had me talk to one of their engineers who authorized return of them to my local DME for replacement and were great to work w/when my local DME dragged their feet in doing so.

Re: Programing the Resmed S8 elite
Hi Wayne.wayner wrote:Does anybody know which keys to press to get into the programing of the machine

The UMFF mask has valves to allow you to breathe when the machine has turned off. I'm not sure if that answers the query raised by Pat.
With regards smart start affecting your readings, I use smart start to start the machine when I put the mask on, but turn the machine off before removing it. This is to ensure it doesn't skew the readings. It will fire up all on its own every now and then, but overall I love the convenience of smart start. I have an S8 Vantage but these settings are the same as the Elite.
If you're not sure what you're doing only make small changes to the pressure settings.
Peter

Kavanaugh was correct that smart start is supposed to not be used with full face masks, something to do with a valve or something in those masks. But I now am on the CL2, so now use the smart start and like the convience of it. I also manually turn it off at the machine before taking off the mask. So if you update or change to a nasal sort of interface, you will love it.
