Seeking CPAP solution for overseas travel with possible limited/intermittent electricity
I going to be traveling overseas for several weeks to areas where electricity may be intermittent/unreliable (especially at night). So I'm interested in this august group's recommendations for 1) a suitable battery (perhaps solar-charged, as Chaplauser is also inquiring about) ... or 2) a non-electrical substitute, like one of the in-mouth objects I'd seen advertised. (Do they really work?)
I've read much of capnloki's epic battery thread, but (as he acknowledges) nearly all of that discussion is for camping or home-power-interruption situations, so their solutions are not really suitable for air travel. (Although I realize that there may be NO suitable solutions.)
(For years, I've been using a REMstar Auto A-Flex (550P) unit.)
I look forward to learning ya'll's wisdom and experiences.

This could be a starting point.
https://www.sleeprestfully.com/products ... -Batteries
The same site features an additional solar panel to charge their batteries.
https://www.sleeprestfully.com/SunPower/ although that may have been discontinued.
Could be worth talking to them.

It would be helpful if you can tell us exactly where you're going, your method of travel (which involves commercial flights based on the information you already posted), and a description of your accommodations.
Also, please fill in your profile.
Another thing that we might want to know is whether you'll be using the humidifier, and what your settings are (a higher pressure will use more electricity).

Re: Seeking CPAP solution for overseas travel with possible limited/intermittent electricity
I can't offer a good solution, because I haven't found one. I've been thinking of trying to get fitted for a dental device for this sort of use, and hope it works well enough to get me through. I've got the Pilot 24 Lite CPAP battery and the ResMed Air Mini, which will get me through about 2 nights, but I'm planning to do some longer backpacking trips where even that extra weight is not ideal, and it won't make it through the trip anyhow.

Just my 2 cents...almadenmike wrote: ↑Fri Sep 13, 2019 12:56 pmor 2) a non-electrical substitute, like one of the in-mouth objects I'd seen advertised. (Do they really work?)
I've tried the "boil n bite" cheap ones you can get from Amazon, and the expensive ones made by a dentist.
In my experience, the cheap ones are probably better than nothing. Good for a night, maybe two if in a pinch. I wouldnt want to go any longer than that though.
Professional made ones are better, and for me, it worked fairly well. But still not as good as CPAP.
If you have central apnea, then one of these devices are probably worthless, since they are meant for obstructive apnea.

We're going to Africa ... yes, involving commercial air travel ... and I don't know much about the accommodations, other than the tour instructions say that some places turn off electricity late at night.D.H. wrote: ↑Fri Sep 13, 2019 1:39 pmIt would be helpful if you can tell us exactly where you're going, your method of travel (which involves commercial flights based on the information you already posted), and a description of your accommodations.

I thought I had filled in my profile. (My machine was not on the list, so I put the info on the contents.) What have I not included in my profile that I should/is important?
I do not use any humidifier (or heated hose that I've seen mentioned in the forum) ... and my pressure setting is 9.
Re: Seeking CPAP solution for overseas travel with possible limited/intermittent electricity
I know that I would not go on such a trip unless I could take a battery that would get me though the night and I could be sure that I would be able to charge it in the daytime.
In some countries, the power is off when you're not in the room so you'd need to make sure you'll be able to charge the battery while you're out sightseeing.

I don't see anything in your profile even the comments section. Did you click on "submit" after you put your machine in the comments section?

I would avoid places without reliable power.
Not only would using your cpap would be an issue,
but there may be other dangers in such a place.
Like crime, sanitation, etc.
