Hypopnea

Post by Escapee » Sat Aug 31, 2019 4:11 pm

I am a newbie on APAP. Using Dreamstation for 10 days . My AHI was 36. With machine it has been ranging from 3 - 9. With more use I am hoping to bring it down further. What I am noticing though is that my total hypopnea is much higher than total obstructive apnea. Is there a particular pressure setting or anything else in the machine or mask that is more effective for hypopnea versus obstructive apnea? Let me know. Thanks.

Hypopnea and Obstructive are the same thing.
Only difference is severity.
Airway pressure can/will treat both.

It's not unusual to have more hypopneas than obstructive. Almost all of my events are hypopneas. Hypopneas are events where there is only a partial blockage of your airway...I think that's better than having a complete closure..don't you? I don't know what your sleep detail looks like and you haven't mentioned what your pressure settings are, but you might try increasing your minimum pressure and see if your AHI drops a little.
