It varies. Some people get instant relief, while others take a month or more. I took me about a month before I noticed any improvement. Did you feel worse on the machine, or the same. Many people give up because their machine is not properly adjusted to their needs. Lab tests are based on one night, and we do not sleep the same every night. Plus, you are trying to sleep in a strange bed with all of those wires hooked up to you. CPAP will only fix one thing, and that is obstructive apnea. Crappy sleep is crappy sleep no matter what is causing it. There may be other factors disturbing your sleep that a CPAP cannot fix. You should have kept the machine. Studies have shown links between obstructive sleep apnea and other medical problems such as heart problems, high blood pressure, and other things. My recommendation is to get yourself an APAP machine with full data capability and take charge of your own treatment. People here will help you get your treatment optimized.

Going on feelings is not a reliable way to judge the success of one's treatment in resolving your OSA. What you don't say is if your treatment data was being monitored to make sure your settings were indeed therapeutic. I was one whose settings were not optimal and caused me to feel worse instead of better. Once my settings were dialed in, the feeling better part kicked in. If you decide to give it another try, there are folks here who can guide you to do it this time around with knowledge. If your numbers all look good and your symptoms persist, you'll know to look for other possible contributors. But that does not mean stop CPAP. It can be doing a great job treating your OSA and you still feel bad for other reasons.

Part of it depends on how well you are being treated. The prescription setting is often based on a single night of weird sleep. Ifyou have an auto machine, many doctors think that wide open will work well when it is really a prescription for failure.

Most people who don't feel better and/or struggle really badly usually do so because the machine was not set up very well for them, and the doctor/DME did not make adjustments to improve the treatment.

The good news is that we can help you do that here. We look at the data from the machine as well as other factors and use that to help you get better treatment.

Other factors can affect how well you feel. How often you wake up - which could be caused by leaks, untreated events, noises, uncomfortable bed, medications, etc.

If you aren't getting enough sleep or continuous sleep, then you won't feel much better even if the treatment is working.

Who would have thought it would be this challenging to sleep and breathe at the same time?
