Whining for Mom

Post by DAYMX5 » Tue Jul 09, 2019 10:00 am

I have an AirSense 10 that ia about 1 1/2 years old. It has always been a very quite machine but lately it has started to whine when I breath in. It wakes my wife at times and she says it sounds like it's calling, "Mom".

I have changed the filter, mask, hoses and water chamber. I have wiped the inside gaskets and the noise persists.

Does anyone have any helpful suggestions?

Is the machine on a level surface?

The warranty is for two years.

On the same level surface it has always sat on.

Sometimes, moving the machine to a lower position will prevent the sound from reaching your wife.
The edge of the mattress is an effective sound baffle.
Or you could get her earplugs . . .

-Maybe so. But what about the noise itself. What could be causing it & can it be corrected?

Complain to the supplier.
If it is under warranty, you need to be as annoying to them as the noise is to your wife.
We can only make suggestions.

Sounds like the motor is ailing...and we can't fix bad motors or at least most of us lack the skills needed.
Contact your supplier...it has a 2 year warranty if you purchased it brand new.

Motors do fail and when they do the usual first sign of a problem is weird noises that it has never made before.
One of these days it will likely simply not work at all....usually on a Friday night on a long holiday weekend when DMEs close up shop.

Be aware if it's sent in for repair, you will not have one to use, probably for a month or more! It pays to have backups for everything. Background noise can help block perceived noises. Jim

Was a change made to your settings? The provider could do ths remotely, if so ordered by the doctor.

The doctor does have access to your compliance and efficacy data. Thus, he can "examine" you without your presence or knowledge.

Very rare for this to happen without some input from patient. Doctors don't have time to do this.

Well, it was the motor dying. The machine was over 2 yrs old so it was out of warranty. I called the provider and they swapped out the unit with a refurbished unit. It is nice & quiet and everyone should enjoy a good night's rest. :D

I suspected as much. Bummer that it was out of warranty but kudos to your DME for getting you another machine promptly.
When normally quiet machines start making weird noises....that's not normal and pretty much a sure sign of something going bad internally and while they can usually be repaired...not by us unless we have some extra skills most of us don't have...they have to go to a repair facility to be worked on and often the price to repair a machine and the shipping costs will add up to almost what another machine (maybe used) would cost.

Depends on your insurer also. I think that if Medicare pays for the machine, the DME is on the hook for 5 years to repair or replace. That's why Medicare pays them the big bucks
