Serious pressure in head - new user

Post by Steven3467 » Thu Jul 04, 2019 8:31 am

I started using my cpap Philips Dream Machine two nights ago. I’m using the nose mask. I’ve woken up both days with horrible pressure in my head that lasts all day. It makes it hard to function. I feel like I slept better but I was struggling with the intense pressure and fogginess all day - lasted all day. Is this just what happens when you start and maybe it will go away? It’s set on automatic pressure and it’s on a low setting. I decided not to use the machine last night and today I don’t have the pressure but my mouth and jaw hurts from grinding. Feel like I’m damned if I use the machine and damned if I don’t. Can you all let me know if the pressure will just go away? I’m so frustrated. :(

I get pressure also but mine isn’t as bad because I’ve reset my pressure to a low setting. The people here are on me to turn it up but I need to get use to it slowly. So I’m turning it up 1 digit at a time. Baby steps. I also switched to a full face mask that helped me. I was getting overwhelmed. I’m new to cpap as well but my brother has been on it for decades and sleeps like a rockstar. We need to just muscle through this with the help of these experts and keep encouraging each other. Our day is coming .....

You have not given the good people on here nearly enough information to help you.
Fill out your signature list;
Machine.
Mask.
Ect.

Low pressure? Give them a number. High pressure number?
If your machine is compatible. Download Oscar and post some charts.

Jaw grinding probably caused by Apnea. Use machine.
Too low pressure can cause a feeling of suffocation.

Once again:
Not nearly enough info. to help you.
The experts on here do not like to guess.

Welcome Steven3467! CPAP definitely takes getting used to and you'll get there in time. The pressure you describe sounds awful and, having struggled with a lot of adjustment problems myself, I can understand why you didn't want to use it last night.

As jimbud said, you need to provide as much detail as you can so that others can help you. Go up to ANNOUNCEMENTS and read Pugsy's sticky: "Newbies Please read before posting". It provides info on how to put your equipment in your signature, the best way to ask questions, and how to use the software that shows what's going on during CPAP use (like AHI, types of apneas, pressures and leaks). The software recently changed from SleepyHead to OSCAR, so keep that in mind when reading.

Best of luck!

Sorry I didn’t post all my information.

I have a Philips Respironics Dreamstation.
Mask is the Dreamwear nose mask.
Im set for automatic pressure and not sure if I’m reporting this right but it says Ramp 4.0 and and ramp time is 30 seconds.

Put that info about your machine in your signature, which is located in your profile. Then download OSCAR and post some charts. The directions for that are located in Pugsy's post up top for newbies. It's a bit of a learning curve and will take some time to complete, but it's the only way to get real help here.

Ramp is a feature that let's you start your session at lower pressure and gradually move up to your prescribed settings so that you can get used to it. 30 seconds is a very short time! Change that to 10 minutes if you can figure out how.
