Full face Mask leaks
New to CPAP, I have a full face mask and every night I have leaks so much so it’s interrupting my sleep instead of me getting a good nights sleep which I was told I would get once I started my treatment. Things I’ve tried lying down adjust my straps before turning on my machine and always making sure my face is clean no make up and face creams. Now I’ve ordered some face mask liners to see if that will work tonight will be my first night also thinking about buying a CPAP pillow! Advice please and suggestions

Re: Full face Mask leaks
You may have to try several masks (or models) before you find one that will work for you.
Finding the right mask is generally the hardest part of therapy for most.
CPAP.com will allow you to try out masks for a limited time.
If you can not adapt to it you can send it back.
Might be worth checking out.
Good luck,
JPB

Mask type is f&p simplus full face mask. Started with a size small but the bottom part kept going up into my lip so just started with a medium a week and a half ago. Thanks for both responses I will have my follow up appointment with my doctor the middle of July.

Re: Full face Mask leaks
Finding my right mask was such a relief!! It solved all sorts of issues -- sore nose, dry mouth, annoying noises, etc. The trick is that fit is a combination of mask model, cushion size, strap adjustments, and in some cases things like accessory straps and liners. And for that, it was mostly trial and error.
Four universal observations: 1) The more surface area that a mask has to seal, the greater the number of potential leak points; 2) Comfort matters; 3) The higher your pressures, the more likely it is to leak; and 4) What works great for someone else might not work well for you.
My sleep clinic fortunately had a decent numbers of masks to try. We first started with styles (nose, nasal cushions, FF) and then tried models/sizes. Within thirty seconds of putting on certain masks, I could tell it was a firm no. Others took more time to evaluate. I could try a mask for 30 days -- this was a godsend. A week is about all I ever needed. Adjusting the straps is also important -- too tight is bad. So is the reverse.
Eventually, I landed on a mask that was almost perfect but it would sometimes leak. I found an anti-leak strap and that worked great for me. (I tried many other things that did not).

Go to youtube and watch 3 or 4 videos about sizing and adjusting that mask.

Re: Full face Mask leaks
Here are some other tips ---->
To reduce unintentional mask leak -
- Make sure the mask is fitted properly. (See mask manufacturer's video.)
- Make sure the headgear is adjusted properly (See mask manufacturer's video.)
- If you use a low ramp pressure or a low minimum pressure, you should fit and adjust your mask at the higher pressures it is operating at for most of the night. You would temporarily change the machine pressure settings while you do the fitting and adjusting. It's best to do this well before bedtime before you are tired and ready for sleep. Don't forget to change your settings back to the ones you prefer.
- Make sure to use good hose management - the hose should not pull on the mask. Notice how your hose is positioned between machine and mask. It should be positioned to minimize any pull on the mask. Hose management is an individual practice. How it is done depends on the mask, the position of the machine, your sleeping position and other factors specific to the individual.
- If you still have problems, learn from the forum what mask liners are available.
- Start a thread in cpaptalk asking for help. Subject: Need Help with Mask xxxxxx
- If your mask still has excessive leak, try other masks. Many people report trying several masks before they find one that works well for them.
Note: Links to just some of the mask manufacturers' instructional videos can be found on the forum host's website - https://www.cpap.com/cpap-masks.php and https://www.youtube.com/

Have you tried any other masks? Different makes and even models can fit differently, loving life 1604 wrote: ↑Fri Jun 28, 2019 3:45 pmNew to CPAP, I have a full face mask and every night I have leaks so much so it’s interrupting my sleep instead of me getting a good nights sleep which I was told I would get once I started my treatment. and even the wrong size (especially too large) can lead to leaks.

Re: Full face Mask leaks
I have the F&P Simplus as well. I bought it based on the reviews on cpap.com but have been having leak problems as well. I adjust it to where I think it is perfect but it wakes me up later in the night leaking! I am wondering if maybe a nasal mask might be better? I think that i breathe through my mouth at night but can one counsiously keep the mouth closed by concentrating on it?

Re: Full face Mask leaks
I know every face is different. I have used the Simplus for about 10 months. I am on my second cushion. Previously I used the Quattro and then the F20. In my opinion the Simplus is far more comfortable and easier to wear than either of my previous masks,

Re: Full face Mask leaks
I am using Resmed F30 after trying many other masks. I have had great success with it. I found I have better luck with Resmed products. I tried Phillips Dreamwear masks. I found the full face version to leak a lot, but you may like Phillips Amara view. I found that having a low profile full face mask works the best for me. (mouth is covered, & sits under your nose instead of over your nose).

Re: Full face Mask leaks
To repeat a suggestion to people who have mask leaks.......investigate a different bed pillow. If your head sinks into your pillow too deeply, it's bound to push your mask out of alignment and it's going to leak. It's that simple.

I agree...IMO the best pillow is the CPAPFIT pillow (buckwheat hull)from Pur-sleepWulfman... wrote: ↑Sun Jun 30, 2019 12:27 pmTo repeat a suggestion to people who have mask leaks.......investigate a different bed pillow.
