Water or no Water...

Post by bsb1485 » Mon Jun 24, 2019 8:24 pm

I have found that if I use water in the humidifier I end up with what seems like water in my lungs on waking. No end to coughing and gurguling so I no longer use water in the machine. Will this be a problem for the machine in the long run? So far, things are working fine for both the CPAP and me.

If you can get along without a humidifier, more power to you! It sure makes travel easier. Humidity is just an option for your comfort.
The water is "downwind" from the the air pump, so the machine runs fine without it.
If you add your machine type to your Profile, the fine folks here can tell you how to turn off the heat in your humidifer or bypass it altogether since the tank will be empty.

No the humidifier is a comfort feature. If you do well without the humidity, you can do without. You may want to turn your humidifier off so it's not running unnecessarily. The coughing/gurgling is not a common issue, so if it continues, you may want to consult with your physician.

The machine couldn't possibly care less, (as long as you don't have the humidifier heater turned on with no water.)

I use a Resmed S9 without the humidifier it makes the foot print of the machine very small on my bedside cabinet, I did not care for the warm moist air from the humidifier

I use the humidifier when the weather gets cold. I turn it off when the weather gets above 50 degrees as I don't need the warm, humid air unless i get a cold.

Locate the machine (and humidifier) at a lower level than yourself - the water won't run to you but back down into the tank.

Your machine doesn't care if you don't want to use water in the humidifier.
As already mentioned...just make sure that the humidifier is turned off so no heat will be going to the water chamber.
Humidity is there for you if you want it or need it....not the machine...it doesn't need it or care one bit.
