I got my backup machine...

Post by djams » Fri Jun 14, 2019 7:41 pm

LSAT recently had a handful of Airsense 10 AutoSets for sale, and one of them fell below my "trigger point" on price.

So I've got it. Just like new, has every thing that my original AutoSet did when I brought it home the day I started therapy. Manuals, pack of filters, everything. Actually, it had an "official" ResMed branded SD card in the slot - so really it had more stuff.

So I hooked up everything, made the settings match mine, used it for 15 minutes or so. Tested that the heated hose works even though I dislike heated air.

Then I placed everything back in the case and put it on the shelf in the bedroom closet.

My question is: Is there any reason that I should use it for a week or so? I honestly can't think of any valid reason. It's a clone of my every day machine. But am entirely open to suggestions.

I use my original as my every day machine. And my spare is my travel / backup machine. It doesn't get used as often, but does get used several times a year.

It’s good practice to test backup plans every so often, so I would use the backup for a day or two every month or two, just to make sure everything is still working and no ants have moved in.

LSAT is the best. I have purchased 2 machines from him. He is an asset to the the CPAP user's community.

It’s a who, not a what - one of the members here that periodically has machines for sale.

Yep. Will be very handy for travel. All I'll have to remember is to pack enough dreamports for the duration of the trip. I've put enough in the bag for a weekender.

I’m waiting to see if APAP will even resolve my sleep issues. Once everything gets dialed in and I know which type of machine will be my “permanent” primary, I likely will be watching here for a backup machine too. Good for both you and LSAT for finding one for you.

Now this is something I'm extremely unlikely to do.

Maybe I'll just shrink wrap it instead.

Your present machine is warranty for two years. So there's no reason to rush that's for sure. I was assured by my sleep doc that if my machine broke down, I'd have a loaner same day.

LSAT's reputation as a seller is rock solid here. When/if you decide to get a backup machine, just wait patiently- sooner or later he'll have some more.

I also throw a P10 in the bag I can use in an emergency does not take up much room but leaks where my bleeps don’t

Great idea. I'll go with a backup Bleep - been meaning to do this for awhile anyways. I had huge leak problems while using the P10 and ended up returning it to cpap.com at the last possible moment. I really wanted it to work for me. My n/p30i is basically gigantic compared to the bleep or the P10.

If I can't remember to add some ports to the bag, or throw a box of them in the suitcase, well... might as well put me out to pasture.

Another vote for LSAT here, I picked up one of the other Airsense machines that he had, probably around the same time you did.

Everything was perfect and looked brand new.

I plan on using my backup machine a night or two per month, just to make sure it's still in good shape, but I don't know if that's a strict requirement. As long as it's kept in a cool and dry place, I would expect it to stay "good" for many years, even if not used.

Two mentions of this - thank you both.

I suppose this would be a good idea. I seriously doubt my ability to maintain any sort of disciplined schedule. But going to take the advice.

Appreciate it!
