Getting discouraged

Post by Carsonsmom » Tue Feb 20, 2007 8:33 pm

I have been on CPAP for about 3 weeks now. I started out with a CPAP machine and the pressure was set for 12 which is the pressure that worked in the sleep study. I was swallowing air and in pain. I called the doc and they had the DME come out and switch my pressure to 9. Then I was waking up with headaches. Called the doctor again. The had the DME bring me an APAP RemStar Auto M Series with C-Flex to use for 4 weeks. It has a smart card in it. At the end of 4 weeks I turn it in so the doctor can have the data. I am still swallowing air and on the APAP I wake up feeling exactly like I did before I knew I had sleep apnea. I almost fell asleep driving this morning.

When I go to bed it looks like the pressure is at 6. Most I have visually seen it at is 8. I am at my wits end. I just want to feel rested! Can anyone tell me what they think the problem is? Thanks for all of your knowledge!!!

Possibilities:

Machine not set up correctly.....including pressure settings, C-Flex setting, Ramp setting is too long.

Mask may not be the right one for you.

You may be leaking therapy air out your mouth at night (unless you're taping or using Polident adhesive strips to keep it shut)

Lots of options to explore.

Best wishes,

You need to fill in your profile correctly, your machine and HH don't match. Too bad you couldn't have kept the Remstar Apap, if set correctly it could have made life easier for you. Wulfman's suggestions are probably correct.

It takes finding the correct ways to do the treatment, and getting use to it. You just have to keep trying and learning. Jim
