Full face and still dry mouth

Post by Stranger35 » Sun May 26, 2019 12:21 am

I use an Air Sense 10 w/full face mask and still have dry mouth during the night.

Any ideas?

Thanks.

Close your mouth....Even with a FF mask, if you are breathing with your mouth open you will have a dry mouth.

There are products - biotene, xylimelts..- that help with dry mouth

Not so simple for everyone. I can't keep my mouth closed even when awake for more than a few minutes. Didn't realize that until I started CPAP. I don't have sinus issues, nose is not stuffy. Even when I'm doing yoga and we are "told" to breathe thru our noses, I can't do that for long. Need to open my mouth to get a full breath.

I had this same problem.

I can vouch for the xylimelts (not plain xylitol lozenges). Xylimelts are special because one side is a dissolving adhesive. It sticks on your gum line and dissolves slowly overnight.

Also, there is no reason you can't tape your mouth when using a FFM. I've switched to nasal masks, and I have to tape my mouth shut. I'd recommend trying this first if you don't find the idea outright appalling.

I have had dry mouth for 2 years no matter what mask I use and all Xylimelts did was tear my gums up. Also be very careful about taping your mouth with a FFM. I tried one time and the humidifier caused the tape to moisten and come loose and I almost choked to death. I presently use a P10 and tape and haven't any problems although I would rather not tape.

i'm very surprised to hear that the xylimelts tore your gums up. haven't heard of that experience before. you place them on the teeth, right?

and as long as i'm being a busy body  have you tried using hairbands instead of tape? scunci, to be particular.

to stranger35-please forgive my slight hijacking of your thread.

Hey Zonker. I did have xylimelts by my teeth and slipped down to gums also. As far as a Scunci, I looked it up online and looks like something that will gag me. Might give me a case of ptsd :) I think if I put anything else on my face at night the dog won't recognize me and bark his head off.

If you tape your mouth with a full face mask, then you should switch to a nasal or pillow mask. I know to some folks, the dry mouth is intolerable.... but if you can stand it.... live with it. I keep my mouth open all night. I have dry mouth, but it doesn't drive me bat-crazy.

I'm with the Sheriff.

I have always slept with my mouth slightly open. Most nights, the dry mouth isn't bad. Some nights, it is worse. I think the first few works were the worst. As I got used to cpap, it either wasn't as bad, or it doesn't bother me as much. Not really sure which.

Who would have thought it would be this challenging to sleep and breathe at the same time?

I have gone back to my Dreamware original because it gives me the best nasal seal, plus taping my mouth shut with Micropore to eliminate mouth breathing because it is the best at eliminating my mouth leaks, but I still get dry mouth all night which has never been satisfactorily eliminated either by those mints, nor scunci nor chinstraps nor anything else mentioned in this entire thread. I do get good readings and two happy faces almost every morning with the Dreamware+Micropore combination, but nevertheless the dry mouth is very uncomfortable.

Best wishes, Nate :D
