So last night I decided to shave my goatee off in an attempt to help get a better seal with my CPAP. I wasn't having major issues prior, but wanted to try and do the best I could to maximize my treatment. Well, after sleeping with the mask on last night, I woke up this morning with some minor irritation where the mask was contacting my face, but I wrote it off as razor irritation. As the day has progressed, it has gotten worse and my face is now visibly red where the mask sits on my face, around my mouth and under my nose. I am concerned I may not have been cleaning my mask as well as I thought up to this point and now have a fungal infection. I've done a thorough cleaning of the mask today and put anti-fungal cream on the area, but I am now concerned about what to do tonight. Has anyone else experienced this? Do I need to go without the mask for a night or two, or continue to very thoroughly clean the mask, keep the anti-fungal on my face and continue wearing the mask while I sleep? If I do go without, will my insurance give me problems for missing a couple nights within my first two weeks as a result of this?
ANY insight would be greatly appreciated.

You could make some sort of a mask liner out of an old T shirt. Don't know what mask you are using, but a liner would work on most.

Re: Possible Newbie Mistake?
How do you know that your irritation is a fungal infection? Please be careful with self diagnosis. In the absence of an actual infection, the medication may be exacerbating the irritation.

Wipe down your mask cushion every morning with a baby wipe and every other day, or so, squirt a couple of squirts of hand sanitizer (alcohol) on the baby wipe. That'll kill anything in your slobber.

One of our members sells mask liners for your mask https://www.padacheek.com/dreamwear-full-face. Could try just patting a layer of milk of magnesia on that irritated skin, let it dry thoroughly before putting on your mask. It will not harm your skin and might be enough of a buffer between your skin and the mask.
