THIS HAPPENED LAST DURING LAST NIGHT'S REST

When I downloaded the data from my cpap machine for last night I was shocked to see the number of obstructive apnea events (39 of them) so early in this therapy session.

I am relatively new to cpap but and I guess anything is possible but this has never happened before. I tried to figure out a reason why it happened but i note that the machine was already delivering the maximum pressure. There was a period of high leakage afterwards but somehow this cleared up and there were correspondingly very few events afterwards.

I felt fairly well rested in the morning and this was one of the longest times that I have slept since I got the machine.

Everything seems contrary to what I would expect would have happened which is why I guess I am so puzzled.

Would really appreciate some feedback on what members think happened here.

Your max pressure is not set high enough...Up it to 20. Also, you need to work on the leaks.

Questions... you have an auto machine, but are using it like a cpap, with both settings almost the same, not allowing the min. to rise to wherever it might need to and closing that off with the low high setting (which normally could stay at 20). Or did I miss something in earlier posts you made? And your leaks are bad.. . need addressing!

Current pressures are 14/18...not the same

The leaks were bad for about an hour...rest of the night within acceptable limits. 3 to 4 AM was the only bad time.
The time over red line statistic is incorrect because it is using the 24 L/min ResMed baseline.
It was really only in large leak territory for maybe 25% of the night....not great but not as bad as 48%,

Pressure settings are 14 minimum and 18 maximum.

What position did you go to sleep in that first part of the night when things were so ugly?
Were you for sure asleep or did you have a lot of trouble falling asleep?
Have you added any new medication....if so what?

I was on my back like most nights. I usually fall asleep in this position with no issues.

Were you for sure asleep or did you have a lot of trouble falling asleep?

Had no issues falling asleep. Was out like light as a matter of fact!

Have you added any new medication....if so what?

No new medication. I did consume a beer a few hours before going to sleep though.

If the few beers was the only new thing in your usual routine then I suspect the alcohol caused your airway tissues to relax more than usual and need more pressure which it couldn't really do because of the limitation but to be honest I doubt that even 20 would have stopped all that mess.

My first suspect would be the beers...
Things cleared up later and went back to normal because the alcohol was pretty much gone out of your system.

No beer tonight at all.....see what happens with tomorrow's report.

Sorry...I saw "few" instead of "a"...
at any rate....when you see something unusual happen that isn't common then you have to look at what changed to cause the weird stuff happening.
Something changed...that sort of ugly doesn't just happen for no reason at all.
Something caused you to need significantly more pressure during that first part of the night.
Exactly what....we don't know. One beer usually doesn't do that but maybe it combined with something else to create the perfect storm or something.

It's obvious you needed more pressure...being on your back can cause it but if you normally sleep on your back then that's not a change.
You look for what might have changed in your routine.

Finally...sometimes crap happens and we don't know why...that's when I blame the aliens for screwing with us.

If you start seeing this sort of stuff often...then you regroup and decide how you want to deal with it but a one off fluke night I never worry much about unless it becomes a habit.
