Taking cpap on an airplane

Post by dixie » Mon Feb 19, 2007 9:46 pm

In a couple of weeks, I'll be flying for the first time since going on CPAP. I assume I'll have to take my machine with me as a carry on--right? I have a Remstar Auto (tank). What about the distilled water? Any other helpful hints would be appreciated. I did already see the posts about using CPAP in a hotel room and will be buying some scrunchies and 3M stickies tomorrow!

Carry it on and guard it with your life. It is by far the most important thing I take with me traveling. Don't use a humidifier, so I don't worry about water.

Many hotels will have distilled water waiting for you if you request it in advance.

When I flew to New Zealand--a 12 hour flight--I contacted the airlines and was told some planes have ele outlets so you can use your unit. I didn't request that service soon enough so I just went without it. Since I didn't sleep because I was three rows from the restrooms I didn't get any sleep due to constantly banging doors.

Those threads were of great help to me. I was surprised to find out the hotels have distilled water on site. I'll have to check into that.

Even if the hotel doesn't have distilled water on site, with enough notice they will usually have some waiting for you.
