Option Humidity & Heat Settings on Dreamstation to Avoid Sore/Dry Throat/Mouth

Post by RomanDelta » Mon Mar 25, 2019 10:21 am

Hi All,

Does anyone know what the optimal settings are on the Phillips Respironics Dreamstation for humidity? I am getting terrible throat soreness and dryness that is waking me up multiple times a night. I believe right now both humidity and heat are set at 3 and 2 respectively. Using nose mask presently - the one that covers the whole nose.

There are none, what's 'right' for me are terrible settings for Pugsy, and vice versa. You have to experiment to find out what your needs are.

Just for giggles, what do you use?

Are you using a full face or nasal (only) mask?

Just for grins....I use pretty much maximum humidity and maximum hose air temp in the winter and maximum humidity with cooler temps when the bedroom isn't so cold.
Doesn't mean it would work for you though...or Palerider or Julie or even your spouse if he/she was on cpap. It's highly individual what someone needs.

Though I do wonder if you are mouth breathing and that is what is drying out the mouth?
What does your leak graph look like? Having any nasal congestion that might make you need to mouth breathe?
If you are mouth breathing no amount of added moisture is going to fix dry mouth from mouth breathing.

I use none, no water at all, except when I'm sick, then the added humidity seems to help loosen up the gunk.

Thanks All.

Pugsy,

There are definitely periods throughout the night where my mouth falls open. I bought some mouth tape to fix that but have not tried it yet, as I took a few new prescriptions last night and didn't want to chance it. I also have a deviated septum so my right nostril is often clogged. I use the Sinupulse Sinus power washer nightly and then I put a breathe right nose strip on before the mask goes on. It comes loose by the morning, so I wonder if the moment when it comes loose is when the mouth breathing starts. I can usually get 5 hours or so of sleep before my mouth falling open starts waking me up.

I have a FFM, but it seems to cause me painful aerophagia. Like, I'd rather have the sleep apnea compared to the aerophagia level of painful.
