Resmed AirTouch F20

Post by Filigree3 » Wed Mar 13, 2019 10:38 am

I just started using this last night. Unfortunately, I got a frowny face on the machine and 0 points on the My Air app for mask seal. My question is, for the foam lining, Am I supposed to smush that down on my face to create the seal? At first, I didn’t, but there was leakage by my forehead and eyes, so I smushed it down some. I’m not sure how tight to make everything.

Guess I’ll have to go tighter tonight.

My personal rule with any mask is, "Not tight, not loose, just snug."

Here are some tips on preventing leaks:
To reduce unintentional mask leak -

- Make sure the mask is fitted properly. (See mask manufacturer's video.)

- Make sure the headgear is adjusted properly (See mask manufacturer's video.)

- If you use a low ramp pressure or a low minimum pressure, you should fit and adjust your mask at the higher pressures it is operating at for most of the night. You would temporarily change the machine pressure settings while you do the fitting and adjusting. It's best to do this well before bedtime before you are tired and ready for sleep. Don't forget to change your settings back to the ones you prefer.

- Make sure to use good hose management - the hose should not pull on the mask. Notice how your hose is positioned between machine and mask. It should be positioned to minimize any pull on the mask. Hose management is an individual practice. How it is done depends on the mask, the position of the machine, your sleeping position and other factors specific to the individual.

- If you still have problems, learn from the forum what mask liners are available.

- Start a thread in cpaptalk asking for help. Subject: Need Help with Mask xxxxxx

- If your mask still has excessive leak, try other masks. Many people report trying several masks before they find one that works well for them.

My wife and I have both tried that mask. We both had trouble with leaks once our pressure got over 15 cm. Others have said they had no problem with higher pressure. I thought it was very comfortable, but the leaks drove me back to the regular F20 mask.

Thanks for all the tips. I first had the Ascend full face mask, but that seemed to be making me break out with acne, so the DME shipped this new one only a week into my therapy. My roommate said I sounded like I was struggling to breathe last night.

That brings up another point. You are using a low-value app - MyAir. Do you plan to use Sleepyhead software (See tutorial near top of forum index page.)? It's a fairly robust software for managing your therapy.

I have that mask, and have been using it for a few months.
No leakage at all, though I do get a tiny bit of seepage near my eyes at times, not enough to register as a leak.

I have mine moderately tight, a bit looser at the top than the bottom.

I finally got the mask tight enough to earn a good report. Thing is, I could barely feel the air coming in my mask, and the water reservoir was mostly full. Did I have it too tight?

Water consumption doesn't have anything to do with the tightness of the mask but it might be related to no leaks.
The things that affect water consumption
1...obviously humidity level chosen to be cranked out by the machine
2...ambient humidity in the bedroom
3...leaks....excessive leaks will cause more water consumption due to increased flow that the machine will try to do to stabilize leaks
4...pressures used...higher pressures will consume more water than lower pressures

Not feeling the air so much...sort of comes with the territory as the body and brain gets used to the pressure delivered and leaks are stablilized. When I first started therapy and at the beginning of the night the pressure seemed awfully high...but in the middle of the night or the next morning I often couldn't even tell the machine was even on and blowing air...it was but the brain and body had just adjusted to the new norm.
