New User Help and Hi

Post by LOUDSNORER » Tue Mar 12, 2019 11:53 am

Hi everyone

Thanks for reading my post.

I have been diagnosed with Sleep Apnea and have been issued with a RES MEd AIRSENSE10 AUTOSET

I was wandering if someone can just take a look at the graphs from sleepyhead for me as I have tried to fathom out why I struggle to stop the leak that happens in the night....that I cant seem to reposition my mask as the machine is blowing to strong.

Also the bridge of my nose has starting to have sores appear.

Thanks alot

No mask should ever cause sore, abrasions, broken skin or blisters on the face. It if does then it is either sized incorrectly or improperly fitted or simply the wrong mask for the person's face.

It would help if we knew which mask you were trying to use.

I also had a sore appear on the bridge of my nose when I first started treatment. I used a small band aid on the nose at night until it healed up. After that, I placed a small piece of moleskin on my nose at night which kept the mask from irritating my nose. The RT I was working with when I first got mu machine told me about the moleskin. She said her husband used it every night. I used the moleskin on my nose for about a year until I changed masks. In order to get the mask to seal at the top of my nose, I was pulling the straps too tight. As Pugsy already stated, you may need a different mask.

Are you fitting the mask at the starting pressure of 4? If so you might try using the mask fit setting on your machine to fit it to the higher pressure. Seal at 4 cm might not work so great and 10 cm.

Your leaks aren't horrible...if they don't wake you up then I wouldn't worry about them but if they are waking you up then they need to be worked on more because they are disturbing your sleep though.

Maybe increase the minimum pressure to 6 cm...see if the pressure line isn't so much all over the place and might help keep the seal.

Appreciate the reply.

I tend to have my hose going up and round the back of the pillow....or should it sit facing downwards. ps I sleep 90 percent on my side..

Does it look like the examples in the thread Pugsy suggested, or the examples in the tutorial in my sig?

If not, then ... 'better, but not at all good, please try again'.

Follow that example.

There is no hard fast rule for how to route the hose. You are doing it like I do it and it works fine for me.
Others prefer other ways and routes. As long as you don't have a problem doing it your way I wouldn't worry about it.

A little large leak flagging isn't the end of the world. Unless it is way deep into large leak territory the machine can do a decent enough job compensating for it.

My leak lines are rarely perfect and sometimes down right ugly but as long as the leaks don't wake me up and I don't spend a huge amount of time deep in large leak territory (for me that's over 40 L/min on a ResMed machine) then I shrug my shoulders and move on.

Now if the leaks (no matter what the size) disturbed my sleep then that would be a different story.
But as long as I am sleeping decently and feeling decent during the day I don't worry about a little excess leak.

Believe me, there are people on here with pressures much higher than yours - and the masks handle it. It is hard to believe it, and that is why you are encouraged to try the mask on the fitting setting.

It is hard to get used to it, and it is not a normal feeling. The mask is going to inflate and move a way from your face a little, but that is how the seal works.

Persevere, and you will begin to get the hang of this.

Thanks for the reply.

I am wandering if the mask itself isnt inflating enough and this is why bridge of nose gets sore?
