Going from ResMed 9 (old)CPAP to ResMed Airsense 10 APAP

Post by EatMyCraft » Wed Feb 27, 2019 7:15 am

Good Morning Everyone,

This is my first time on the site. I've had a CPAP machine for the last 9 years which was my Resmed RX only S9 and recently went to get a new machine. After speaking with the consultant I've taken the APAP ResMed Airsense 10 loaner. I probably woke up 3 times in the night and half way through eventually turned the machine back to a CPAP. The air pulsated and wasn't a consistent flow and I had a hard time adjusting to it.

I'm looking for some advice. In Ontario, Canada you cannot get an APAP if your prescription says CPAP but from my understanding, the ResMed Airsense 10 for her gives you the algorithm for APAP but the store didn't have a loaner for that hence why I'm trying the APAP device.

Do I just need to suck it up and stick with it for the week and see if I can adapt? Or is there features in the clinical setup that I can change to make it work a little bit better? My prescription is a 9. Maybe an APAP just isn't for me, not sure if it's something you generally have to get used to.

If these have all been asked just yell at me and tell me to use the search function and I will try to find the right search words haha. Thanks in advance!

What are the settings on the Airsense 10?

The Ontario Medical system classifies incorrectly, the Airsense 10 Autoset for Her as a CPAP. This IS the best machine you can get. Since the S9 is working for you I can guarantee it will work for you.

My recommendation would be to get it. The good folks here are more than capable of helping you thru any issues you may find.

It was set to range between 7 and 14 and it was on the APAP setting. Sorry new to the diagnostic type stuff, do you need all of the settings to accurately comment? If so I can get them.

Thanks! I was leaning towards that one anyways. The consultant seemed to push to a degree the F&P SleepStyle which I plan to look into a bit more but don't know much about.

A key IMHO is the ability to use software to analyze you results. SleepyHead which is still around or OSCAR which should be out soon are the best. The F&P is not nearly as good with this. An APAP will give you the most flexibility, you already know how long these things last.

Get SleepyHead software.
Look at your graphs and determine where your issues are. If you don't understand what you see, post copies here and you will get all the help you need to dial things in.
If it turns out you like CPAP better the for her can do that too.
