Where is technology heading in the CPAP world?

Post by luke1081 » Wed Feb 20, 2019 10:57 am

Having just begun using CPAP, are there any schools of thought as to where technology will lead the CPAP machine? Smaller perhaps, more lightweight, wireless? For those with humidifiers, I guess the size would be limited somewhat. Has anyone heard of any murmurings about future technology or, indeed, other treatments that are being developed? Would love to see - especially with more and more cases being diagnosed - what is being worked on.

Hello again luke1081,

Some of the more recent models of machine from ResMed and from Philips Respironics already have cellular phone chips in them. This allows the hospital sleep-medicine department to both monitor patients at a distance, and to change pressure settings remotely if they need to.

This lets them supervise more patients in the same time period.

These models cost more, and since each foundation trust hospital in the UK sets its own budget, and decides which models to standardise on, you may or may not have that option in your machine. But it does exist.
