Brief intro, we're from Canada, wife on the CPAP for almost 5 yrs and 6 months for me. My wife's machine is a bit bulky (Respironics System One), mine is the Resmed Airsense 10 CPAP.
We were in Las Vegas last week and dropped into a CPAP store and was amazed at the difference in pricing (even with the USD/CAD exchange rate). Couldn't walk away without picking up one for each of us. She got the APEX iCH Auto and I got the XT Auto/humidifier.
Back home in Manitoba, Canada our province until recently covered the cost of the CPAP at 100% including supplies, now the patient must pay $500.00 for a CPAP machine (on a five year cycle), the province covers the rest and the supplies after this is on the patient. Albeit, if a person has medical insurance then the cost may be covered to a greater extent.
Coverage varies from province to province, some provinces don't cover the CPAP at all.
If you are concerned about bringing a machine back to Canada it's actually straight forward. As long as it's for personal use and not for commercial import it will be ok. Health Canada regulations are clear on this. Further to this since it is a medical device as defined with CRA there are no taxes levied, it is exempt.
We made sure we had our prescriptions with us and all was good. Even though the store was able to set the machines they took the time to show us how to do it ourselves if need be.
