2G Modem?

Post by philberndt » Sat Feb 09, 2019 5:47 am

Hello, I've been a vpap user for about 2 years now, I was going though my machines menu and saw that it has a 2G Modem built in, my question is, what is it for?

My machine is a ResMed Lumis 150 VPAP ST-A

I'm sure it's a very old cellular modem (pre-dating 4G and 3G) for sending telemetry information to ResMed and your doctor. No cell providers support 2G (that I know of) and I hear the VZW is dropping 3G by the end of 2019.

The ResMed Lumis 150 VPAP ST-A is basically the same machine as the AirCurve 10 ST-A, different countries might have different names for similar models and there might be different cell technology within them appropriate to the target countries cell technology.

Modern Resmed devices use cell technology to send your data to ResMed, your healthcare team and allows remote configuration of your settings.

It's so you don't have to carry the SD card to your doctor or equipment provider so that that they can read the data on it.

For scandinavian users.
Telia and Telenor got 3G at end of life 31 des 2019.
2G is supported until 2025, but this is mainly to support machine to machine communications (like our cpap machines and lots of other medical equipment)

Resmed is probably trying to cut down on back problems caused by toting those heavy SD cards around. Resmed, Saving Backs the World over. :!: Jim

I'm using a ResMed AirSense 10 AutoSet.
My unit is communicating with ResMed through the service they provide called MyAir.
Link : myair.resmed.eu
Once I had registered my device it communicates with the website with 2G modem and gives you feedback everyday on your sleep and its helped me alot.
If you have a leak or a leak is starting to develop you might be able to see if before it is a issue. (Potential lifesaver)
If your an adult you should figure out how to access the maintenance menu on your device to see if its set up correcly for yourself or your child. (Mine came mis-configured from the doctor)

If you are a Adult, you should be using something better than MyAir to monitor your data, like Oscar! Much more useful full data, not just compliance. Jim

Nearly worthless compared to OSCAR.

About all myair is good for is so that you don't actually have to LOOK at the machine... and a pat on the back and a hearty "YOU PARTICIPATED!!!" award.

I've just downloaded OSCAR and imported my SDcard.
It's alot more data to look at and I must admit im abit overwhelmed.
I will definately try to take a printout with me from OSCAR next time I go to the doctor.
Here is a screenshoot I took just after my first time import.

Read the Newbies sticky at top of the index page and follow the links to learn how to format an OSCAR screenshot. Then, upload a typical night's chart in this thread.
