Does anyone know if taking this drug can make your situation worse right before sleep? I’m seeing mixed reviews online some saying no and others warning to stay away from it. Personally, I thought it was helping me relax but when I started monitoring myself in sleepyhead head with an airsense 10 set on auto 4-15cm I was getting some really bad hypopneas and apneas one after another and my ahi was like 10 times worse compared to the nights im not taking it. Is there anything official written up on warning of taking benzos with sleep apnea? My recent sleep study has comments that say the patient should be advised that taking sedating drugs or alcohol can worsen sleep disordered breathing.
I know people say they take it no problem but is there any documentation anywhere that ativan might do this to some individuals? Could it be a possible side effect I just have or do I just simply have really bad nights when I take and look at sleepyhead? Or could it all be in my head? Maybe I just slept on the pillow the wrong way and it was just a coincidence?

Re: Ativan (Lorazepam) and sleep apnea
Don't take Lorazepam. It is highly addictive. I take Trazodone which is an old antidepressant but one of the most used medicines now for insomnia. I have read reports that many sleep apnea patients are given Trazodone to help them tolerate CPAP treatment. It is one of the only antidepressants that does not interfere with Rem sleep. I know for a fact that I would not have been able to adjust so quickly to CPAP if I had not been taking Trazodone for my insomnia.

I have been instructed to take an Ativan before my oral surgery. Hope it doesn’t cause any problems.
