Airfit F30 Squeezing Nose

Post by compujas » Fri Feb 08, 2019 4:26 pm

I just got an F30 to try after having used the Amara View for a while (1.5 years with some time off to try other masks). My issue after only 3 nights is that it seems to squeeze my nostrils a bit, to the point that it makes it feel difficult to breathe. I can still breathe, but it's annoying and I've been waking up after only 2 hours of sleeping with it. I got a medium and using the fit guide my nose, even at the widest point, fits well within what it says for medium. Am I doing something wrong, or is the fit guide just not correct? Unfortunately there's no larger size, so if it's the mask and not me then I'll just have to return it. I had essentially the same problem with the F20 as well except higher up, essentially closing my nose, so I gave up on that one. I also feel like I have to keep it pretty tight to get it sealed. I've been having that problem with my Amara too lately, but after 1.5 years I've never replaced the headgear, so it's probably stretched and needs to be replaced. If there's no hope for the F30 and I return it, I might try the Dreamwear FF next. I have tried the Dreamwear nasal and like the idea of the top-mount hose attachment, but the nasal was just so loud for me, so I don't know if the FF will be the same. Thank goodness for return insurance.

I went to the F20 mask because it is narrower across the bridge. You may want to try the Resmed F10 or the F&P Simplus. I found both of those masks leaked around the bridge of my nose and the F20 doesn't. If you still want a minimal contact full face mask, look at the Amara View or the Dreamwear FFM. Both of these masks have Larger cushions which fit wider noses.

I'm a FF user....I have not had any problems with any of the masks I have used...Quattro, F20 and Simplus. Of the 3 , the winner for me is Simplus..

I know just what you mean, but, for me I think it's more the holes moving so they don't align with my nostrils, on the F30. It doesn't take much for the plastic to block them, and I wake up with obstructed breathing because I tape my mouth.

I switch between F30 which I love otherwise, and Simplus.

As I said, I tried the F20 and had the same issue except it was squeezing closer to the bridge of my nose. I had to wear that one very high up to the point that the bottom was on my lip. I also don't like the masks that go up to the bridge, I prefer the minimal contact ones. And I've been using the Amara View, but wanted to try something new, and said I might try the Dreamwear FF next.

Yeah, it's kind of like that. It seems to be a combination of not quite wide enough and holes blocking my nostrils. I don't know why they have to make it with two holes instead of one large opening like the Amara View. I guess Resmed just isn't concerned with people with large nostrils.

I think it has two holes to make it more sturdy... I might get the guts to modify the opening screen. I don't have very large nostrils but I do move a lot. It's almost like the cushion gets creased and the holes are partly blocked.

Amara View leaked for me, and eventually hurt my face, but many do love it. I'd definitely try then Simplus-it has been the only nose bridge mask I have been able to wear, and it's silent. I do have a pad a Cheek liner with a nose pad on mine.

Be careful about cutting the silicon -- do it in small (tiny) steps. I tried to make the hole larger on a small Dreamwear FFM and it's too large now, lots of leaks and a lot more wobbly than it used to be.

I have noticed similar problem with the F30. I had a small but I have been thinking about trying a medium to see if it might make a difference. I switched from F30 to Dreamwear a few weeks ago. I've been using a medium on the Dreamwear FFM. The DME says they have all three sizes in the package, so if you try that, see if you can get all of them to try out. I switched back and forth between small and medium and settled on the medium.

I know, it might even tear from my cuts. It'll spread when it stretches as well, as the edges are thickened and obviously I won't be able to duplicate that.

I couldn't use the Dreamwear FFM partly due to noise.

I had the same problem - ResMed really needs to make a large size for the F30. I returned it and got the F20, which is fine but not as good as a large F30 would be.

I have the F30 and it took me a lot of strap fiddling until I got it to fit right. Took me a few nights before I realized it had an adjustable strap on top of my head (Doh!) and that one was key to getting it to fit *much* better. When it's adjusted best for my particular noggin & honker, it feels like it's just a wee bit too loose. I also find I have to readjust as the strap relaxes (?) between washing & drying. I've learned the best order-of-adjustment with my F30 is top strap first, then temples and then jaw straps last. I don't know if this has anything to do with your fitting issue...

Good Luck!

Just an update-I used the fitting template and found I was in between S and M. I ordered a M cushion and no more issues breathing through my nose! I have a bit more chin/jaw leak, but it seems not too bad. I can't wait for the PAC liner for this mask.

If you have obstructed nostrils with this mask, try the next size up! I still might try cutting my S cushion's holes a little larger.

I do have some chapping around my nose some mornings, but overall this is a great mask for me.

I have been eyeballin' this mask for a while. I was wondering if air came out of the nose piece(s). From reading this thread, it seems that a little air comes out of the nose piece.... right? I have one nostril with a fairly significant restriction, so I mostly breathe thru my mouth. When I started cpap therapy, I used the Liberty mask and I couldn't stop the leak around the nose piece. My thoughts (at the time) were that I had so much restriction, the air couldn't go in, so it had to go somewhere, so it went out, and cause my leak rates to sky rocket. Any thoughts concerning this with the F30? Thanks,

Sheriff

You can breathe through nose or mouth or both with this mask. I have my mouth taped because it gets too dry if I breathe through it. I love that the pressures between nose and mouth are equal and that if I get a mouth leak, it goes into the mask.

The upper nose part really hasn't leaked for me. It's a great design.
