Aussie hose worth the money?

Just wondering if the aussie hose is worth the money vs. just making a fleece hose cover.

Make a fleece hose cover first. I love my Aussie hose, but I use my fleece cover with it as well, so it's not wasted money to get a fleece cover going first.

I used a cover that was polar fleece lined with 3M brand Thinsulate. This cover did a great job but if I had my room cold, and turned up the humidity, I would still get some rainout. I got the Aussie Heated Hose and suddenly, zero rainout. I found that I was actually able to turn my humidifier down and have great humidity.

So, the heated hose has allowed me to have slightly warm air that is humidified to my liking with zero rainout. For me, it was well worth the money. To my surprise, my insurance even paid for it!

I bought one recently and I've been pleased with it. I like a cold room and a lot of humidity so I got a lot of rainout even with a fleece cover. The fleece cover helped with rainout in the hose but the mask got a lot of water in it.

I had to run the heat in the house and turn the humidity down to make it manageable.

The aussie heated hose reduces rainout to almost zero, even with no heat in the house (temp goes down to 60 degrees, which is "California Freezing") and I turn the humidity all the way up. I get just a little moisture in the mask but nothing compared to what it was.

I like the idea about putting the fleece cover back on, thanks. I was wondering what to do with it.

Aussie Heated Hose!

Post by sleepyred » Fri Feb 16, 2007 7:12 am

I love my Aussie Heated Hose! Would not switch back for anything. I did try to fleece cover and it did nothing for my rainout. I've used my heated hose for over a year now - can put my humidity level where I need it - around 3 1/2 - 4 and have literally had only one or two drops of water hit my nose!

Some cpapers are love their Aussie Heated Hoses so much they buy a back up - and that is what I am thinking about since mine is over a year old. I have no idea how long they last - but I could not even think about going "it alone without mine".

A couple of nights ago I woke up about 2:00AM with water running down my chin from leak point in my mask. When I rolled over onto my back... you get the picture. All this at a humidity setting of 1 and the room temp in the low 50s. I had missed clicking on my heated hose. It was a good reminder for me to double check.

I think heated hoses should be standard equipment. If you have any moisture problems after trying a cover, its well worth the money. As an added plus, the company sends along an Aussie snack treat to say thank you.

Chris

Hey... I didn't get a snack treat with my Aussie hose. Drat.

Anyhow, I think the hose is practically a MUST. No rain out and the air isn't quite as cold!

I tried a fleece cover and didn't get good results. In my opinion the heated hose is well worth the money. I have had mine for 1 1/2 years and it is still going strong!

I agree, the aussie heated hose is the only way to go. You can put on a fleece cover over any hose to reduce the risk of rainout but doing so that still won't WARM the incoming air.

The heated hose does an excellent job at WARMING the incoming air, in fact for me too good I had to drop down from a 12-Volt DC power supply to a 9-Volt DC power supply so it didn't get so warm, with the 9-Volt DC power supply it is perfect.
I make fleece (heavier than most) covers for the hoses, to be used either alone or with the Aussie. Haven't had any complaints yet .

We have the heat turned off to our bedroom, and the fleece cover does the job for me (and others). I would certainly get an Aussie if I needed one, regardless of price, for as Snoredog stated, "Comfort is everything".

Another contributing factor is the placement of your (heated) humidifier!
By placing it lower than your head, it makes it more difficult for moisture to 'run uphill'. IF you're not doing that, that's where I would start.

I've done everything "right" to avoid rainout, but still got it.

I got a heated hose, love it. But I still have 3 hose covers on it to avoid rainout.

I love my heated hose so much, I bought another one as backup - and carry it in my travel bag. Now, no need to unhook my overhead setup because I have a travel one too.

Definitely worth the money.

www.sleepzone.com.au

Plus, you supposedly can get one here. I don't feel badly posting a competitor here because cpap.com doesn't carry the item.

Adding my thumbs up to using the Aussie heated hose. Mine's still working fine three years into it. I did buy a backup for "just in case", but the original is still doing the job.

It's estimated we spend a third of our lives sleeping. I want the remaining 1/3 of my years (which will definitely be always using "cpap") to continue being rainout-free. I'm very much into comfort.
