AHI sky-high past two nights for no apparent reason?
AHI sky-high past two nights for no apparent reason?
Hello,
I have owned and used a ResMed AirSense 10 AutoSet since 2015 and it has worked pretty well.
I typically show 0-15 events/hour until two nights ago where it suddenly spiked like crazy to 96/hour and last night, 107/hour. My mask seal, per MyAir, shows a perfect score.
Unfortunately I don't currently own a SD Card Reader to use Sleepyhead and post that data, for the moment.
Before finding a sleep clinic and paying for a visit, I wanted to ask if anyone knows what may have happened here ? How can it rocket that high out of the blue ?
Nothing has changed in my sleep environment and I made sure after the first high event night, I changed the filter and verified the tub, mask and hose are clean.
Thanks,

not an expert myself, but i do know enough to tell you that you aren't going to get more than guesses without the experts seeing that sleepyhead data, unfortunately. if you can get a usb sd card reader and get that info, then post it here, you will get all kinds of advice.
all i can say is that we are squigy meatbags and sometimes these things can happen. pugsy here calls that being visited by the aliens. so we can't know if these events are real or not. i myself had an ahi, out of the blue, of 60 so i know it can be concerning.
did you sleep through these events? did you wake up rested?
good luck!

Re: AHI sky-high past two nights for no apparent reason?
You didn't mention what mask you use and it's possible it got knocked more off than on for some reason both nights - something changed, whether your bed pillow, new meds, alcohol, etc... but again, with nothing to look at, how can we hope to help.. or even make informed guesses?
Re: AHI sky-high past two nights for no apparent reason?
There is some limited data available on the machine's LCD screen besides the overall AHI.
You can get event categories if you go a little deeper into the menu.
The category of events....extremely important to know how much in each category when the AHI is high because what to do about it depends on the category.
Anything new in terms of your own health or medication changes...additions, subtractions..changes in dosage?
Do you know how to get to that expanded data available on the LCD screen?

Well, get one, they're cheap, and without it, all we can *possibly* do is guess.VariusZZZ wrote: ↑Thu Jan 10, 2019 8:54 amHello,

Most lap top computers manufactured over the past 5 years have SD card readers on them along the edge of the unit.VariusZZZ wrote: ↑Thu Jan 10, 2019 8:54 amHello,

Re: AHI sky-high past two nights for no apparent reason?
I got an SD Reader today so here is the sleepyhead daily review from yesterday night:
Far as the other questions, I use a F&P Simplus Full Face Mask (lats night I know it must have been off due to my seal score being not-perfect).
I don't use any meds of any kind, so nothing changed there far as dosages etc...I drink quite a bit less than I formerly did, and didn't have any alcohol since early last week.

Re: AHI sky-high past two nights for no apparent reason?
Your excess leaks are massive for some reason...so bad that probably the machine simply throws up it's little hands and says "I give up...airway dude...collapse if you must"..
You have to get the leaks under control before you go doing anything else.
It would be nice to see the graphs but all they are going to do is confirm at this point is a large amount of time deep within large leak territory.
I can tell by the statistics what I will likely see on the graphs.
Your minimum pressure may also be a factor....but the primary culprit right now.....major excess leaks from something.

i know pugsy said what you have currently is okay as she wants to get the leaks under control. but moving forward(i hate that phrase!), you might want to see how the experts want to see your sleepyhead graphs displayed.

Re: AHI sky-high past two nights for no apparent reason?
I have edited my profile and taken a new report (hopefully) in the expected format
Here is last night's data - I feel I slept much better, but my score is still horrible.

Re: AHI sky-high past two nights for no apparent reason?
Your leaks are so bad the machine simply can't do any sort of decent job responding and probably recording.
Like I said...the graphs look exactly like I expected them to look.
Can you post a chart from before the AHI went so high?
Replace the mask pressure graph with the regular pressure graph so we can see the pressure line more clearly.
What changed to make the leaks so bad? Facial hair? How old is the mask cushion?
Something changed or there wouldn't be such a big difference or change in the AHI.
The machine goes up from the minimum fairly quickly...and then pretty much stays up so it's not like it is dropping back down to 6 all night long. It appears to be going to around 15 and staying in that neighborhood...need to see the other pressure graph to get a more complete idea.

Re: AHI sky-high past two nights for no apparent reason?
The mask liner was changed a few months back. Facial hair isn't different than the past few years (minimal/shaved on face, only a goatee)
I do run the "Run Mask Fit" option each night to get a tight seal (green smiley face) before going to sleep.
Here is a shot from a night with one of my lowest AHI (it seems it has high leak also, though ?)

Re: AHI sky-high past two nights for no apparent reason?
Likely the lower AHI night isn't an accurate reflection of the data because so much time was spent so deep in large leak territory that the machine totally missed sensing anything. I suspect the AHI was really much higher but the machine just didn't know they were happening.
It goes like this...
go just a little bit into large leak territory...the machine can usually respond and record accurately..
go a little deeper into large leak territory and you might see some Unknown apnea flags pop up...the machine still senses something happening but doesn't know what to call it.
go even deeper into large leak territory and the machine doesn't have a clue that an apnea is event of any kind happening...so no flag at all....you get a nice low AHI but that's not really what happened....it's low because the machine was clueless.
If you didn't have at least part of the night without a large leak flag I would suggest you go checking your hose for a big hole in it.
But if you look at the leak graph...you never really have anything close to 0.0 leak. It's like your baseline leak is already starting out near the large leak red line threshold of 24 L/min.
Have you checked to make sure that you have the correct mask type chosen in the setup menu? That will make some difference but I don't really that that it would make this big of a difference.
Do a 20 minute awake test...put the mask on and turn the machine on and sit there without moving and make sure the mask doesn't leak or move....turn it off...go look at the software report. The leak line should be at near 0.0 and if it is not...something is going on somewhere that messed up.

Re: AHI sky-high past two nights for no apparent reason?
Start by changing your pressures to min 10, max 20.
And work on the seal. it's so bad on the 13th that you're losing therapy pressure (see how the mask pressure line is going way down?
