can Airsense 10 for her be used without humidifer tub

Post by mrsski » Thu Jan 03, 2019 3:04 pm

Hi, I just got my new Airsense 10 for her and will be taking a trip soon. I was sold the HME to use instead of the humidifier tub when traveling but I just read in the directions the machine won't work without tub. Can someone let me know which is true? Do I need and additional part to use it? I was talked out of the travel CPAP's by sales person.
Also do I need the heated tube or will the normal one work fine. I was charged for heated but it was not included. Thanks.

Normal tube is fine. I bought a side cover to use it without humidifier: https://www.cpap.com/productpage/resmed ... side-cover

It won't work without the water chamber unless you use one of these end plates.
https://www.cpap.com/productpage/resmed ... side-cover

Now you can insert the water chamber and turn the humidity setting to the off position and not use any water if you wish.
You don't save much in space by using the end plate.

And if you got charged for the heated hose then they should give you a heated hose.
Insurance will pay them more for a heated hose than the non heated hose. You should get what your insurance pays for whether you want to use the heat feature or not.

I think I've used the humidifier tub once on my Airsence. For me, not messing with the humidifier far out weighs the benefits I receive from using the humidifier. That little plastic plate seems expensive for a ….. little plastic plate.

People don't have to buy the little plastic end piece...it costs $20 plus shipping unless there happens to be free shipping promo.
All a person has to do is turn humidity off...leave the water chamber in place without any water in it if they don't want added moisture...and it hurts nothing. Adding the end plate reduces space on the table every so slightly...maybe a couple of inches.
You don't gain much.

I looked back on my cpap.com account, because I tought I paid more than $20 for the end piece. Sure enough, that's all I paid. I remember flinching when I first saw the price. When I flich, it's an indication to me that something is higher that I expect... and I remember flinching. $20 is not all that bad. oh well...

Funny what our memories do to us sometimes isn't it? I actually have seen that end piece (came with a used machine I bought) and I thought for what it is...$20 bucks not a horribly high price. It's more substantial than I imagined it would be until I actually saw it.
I still wouldn't spend the money myself when using the chamber in place with humidity simply turned off works just as well and there is no huge space savings by using the end plate...unless saving an inch is a big deal to someone. It's not to me.

I turn the humidity off and either turn the heat off or use a slimline hose when using my machine on my backup battery.
That greatly reduces the electricity needed. So far, I have only done this occasionally to test it.

We sometimes have prolonged power outages so I have it so I can solar charge the battery. We have not had a major outage since I bought the backup system though.

I got one of the end covers from our sponsor 11/24/17 when I bought that AirStart10 Cpap (back-up) on sale for 185 bucks. It was $13.69 with free shipping.

I actually use it on occasion!

I carry the side cover when traveling. It is a back up if the humidifier tank gets broken.

If there is lots of room available I guess you could just carry a spare tank...
