New cpap, old user questions

Post by medlabtech.miracle » Tue Jan 01, 2019 5:54 pm

I got my first cpap around 2002 and have posted to this site on / off with various user names since I can't remember them after a while.

After 11 months of weekly visits to my dr crying and begging for help with complete exhaustion, I was sent to a terrific dr. Was provided a new cpap, mask and some blood work ordered. I was diagnosed with anemia, prediabetes, very low thyroid, sleep apnea, restless leg syndrome. I awakened during apneas as before, awakened 50 times during my sleep study.

Last year I was working 2nd shift and attending 2 schools, which amounted to school 4 days a week during the day. I had extreme stress in phlebotomy class and saw random blood sugar suddenly shoot up, 40 tubes of blood were taken from students practicing on me over a months time. My primary school took the phlebotomy school off their list of accepted schools in October, I continued going because I figured I could still practice and get my $3300 worth out of it. My December blood tests showed the anemia and diabetes are now normal, my thyroid levels are still low.

After getting the cpap machine, the timer showed I was only sleeping 6 hrs a night because of household noise awakening me and I did not feel more rested. I moved my bed, set my computer to rainfall noises and use earplugs when awakened in the morning. I started feeling more rested.

My first question is that I feel a near overwhelming desire to not get out of bed. I started this week letting myself sleep 12 hrs a night. What is going on with this?

My 2nd question is that my nose was congested, I turned the humidification up to 4 things improved. Now the problem is that the weather cooled. I live in San Diego with no house heat, terrible rainout conditions started. I turned humi to 2, I have daily nose bleeds. (I have had nose bleeds since childhood, but the problem went away with sinus surgery). I'm not sure how to proceed.

Get a heated hose to eliminate rainout

LSAT my hose comes built in with heated coils which I have set on 4. What is missing is the mask tubing cover. The temp is down to the 30s in the evening,

I'm going to try wool socks around the hose. I use a netipot, is there anything like nose moisturizer for cpap users?

My machine is set to pressure of 4 and then increases as needed. Is it possible 4 is too low to move the humification down the tube? The water gathered in a low point in my hose and I couldn't actually breath through it.

I had lots of congestion too using a nasal mask. Went to a full face and the congestion went away.
Sleep Doc thinks I was breathing through my mouth too much.

I don't think I'm breathing through my mouth. My nose is bleeding for over a week, like turning an entire kleenex red when I wake up.

I read that the ambient temp has to be somewhat warm and humidified. The temps are in the 30s and no heat. I Ieave a coffee maker on and bought a space heater, put tube sock my mask hose and keep the hose under the covers and the bleeding immediately stopped as soon as I could turn the humidifier up.

The evening temps are heading to the 40s so I'm going to make it.
