Excessive Timed Breaths

Post by betam4x » Wed Dec 19, 2018 12:02 pm

Using a BiPAP with ASV machine, specifically the Respironics System One BiPAP ASV

I've been having SEVERE fatigue lately. I am about to go see a doctor about it, but i pulled my data into sleepyhead for the first time in months. It reported 584 timed breaths for 1 day. Is this normal? Could this be contributing to me sleeping nearly 18 hours a day? This sleepy head wants to know! (AHI was 0.41 according to sleepyhead).

There were also 9 flow limitation events, 3 hypopneas, 2 obstructive, and 4 vibratory snore events.

Could be that your backup rate is set too high, is it set, or is it on 'auto'?

I would have to check, however, the settings haven't changed in forever and this problem does not happen every day. In addition, I went back 1 year (settings were exactly the same) and it never got close to that, although occasionally I'd have days where it spiked to 200+ events...maybe once a week if even that.

I will take your suggestion though, I haven't touched the settings in a while. Regardless, would that cause an onslaught of sudden exhaustion that gets worse and worse?

EDIT: Backup rate is auto.

EDIT #2: If I were breathing through my mouth, how would that show through sleepyhead? I've always wondered that. I wake up with a dry mouth sometimes. I use a dreamwear mask.

What was the CA rate per hour?
Is there any connection with extra stress in your life?
When I have a stressful day, my timed breath rate does go up.
Anything new in your diet for the previous day? -- extra caffeine, alcoholic beverages more than normal, late evening eating, etc.?

The resmed does not even tell you howmany timed breaths have happened, I would not worry about the number of times the machine is helping you breath I would be more concerned about the AHI and sleep effectiveness
