Travel Machine Recommendations for. BiPAP user

I just did an overnight trip and decided not to bother with taking my machine. Big mistake. I would like to get a travel machine that supports BiPAP, as I require high pressures (21/15).

Are there any current BiPAP users who can recommend what devices might or might not work?

Why do you want a travel machine? Why not take your Dreamstation? Or, do your travels necessitate a battery?

I don’t believe any travel machines are bi-level capable and have pressure limits that can only reach up to 20cms of pressure.

A few options, if you travel a lot and want a second machine:

1. An identical twin to the BiPap you have -- I did this for a number of years with a pair of Respironics M Series Bipaps
2. A Bipap that's a bit more packable. While there are no true travel BiPaps, some models, like the Devilbliss IntelliPap fit nicely in a roller. The Devilbliss is particularly nice in that it doesn't have an external power brick, so you're just packing a cube, a single power cord, and your mask and hose. If you don't need humidification, you can get your travel gear even smaller
3. A travel machine with exhale relief. While not a true BiPap, that's what I've done for the past two machines (a Devilbliss CPAP auto with exhale relief, and now a Resmed Airmini). My BiPap starting point isn't quite as high as yours (mine's only 16/9), but my AHI's are about the same on the BiPap at home vs. the CPAP (carefully configured) on the road.

Would like something smaller, plus I use the humidifier. But it may make sense to get an identical one and keep it ready for travel.

I am not aware of any tiny bilevel machines as in travel size.

The travel machines are not really that much smaller when you consider that you still have to carry them. I've got a backup BiPAP machine (S9) that I carry with me when I fly. It comes in its own carry case which I can fit over my shoulder along with my onboard back pack. I can also fit the machine inside this back pack and still have room for my other gear. The detachable humidifier goes into my checked luggage. If I lose the humidifier it's not the end of the world as the machine is till functional and an HME (heat moisture exchanger) will suffice.

In the long run I'd rather have the effectiveness of the correct machine and put up with being a little bit more organised.

I disagree on this one. The latest generation of travel machines are significantly smaller--I get an entire days worth of clothes more in my roller in the space difference between my prior Devilbiss machine and the AirMini. To each their own, but as someone who's on the road 75+ nights a year, it's a big improvement in convenience.
