Yeah, I have heard of this "crap" and it's not crap.

Not all our sleep problems are caused by sleep apnea....there's a mile long list of potential culprits for insomnia....sleep apnea is just one little item on that big list.
The cpap machine can only fix problems that are related to sleep apnea...so maybe there is some other reason going on that the machine can't fix.

I have insomnia issues...sleep maintenance insomnia mainly...because my back hurts like hell. The best cpap therapy in the world isn't going to fix the arthritis in my back causing the pain.

No matter how much we might want to put all our problems in the sleep apnea basket and have the machine fix them for us...it's not a realistic goal. The machine fixes one problem specific to sleep apnea...that's it.

Now...all that said...AHI less than 5...just how much less than 5?
It is very possible that your therapy while improved is still not optimal and maybe something could be done to give the machine a better chance of helping your sleep...assuming your problem is related to the apnea events you are still having.
Do you wish to investigate that side of things or did you just want to rant?

The CPAP can only keep your airway open while you are sleeping. If you are not comfortable with your mask, it may prevent you from falling asleep. That has nothing to do with the CPAP...it the mask choice. The problem could also be that the doctor has prescribed the wrong pressure for your machine....again...not the machine, it's the doctor.

I wanted the CPAP to fix all my issues, but I finally came to terms that it wasn't going to. My numbers are great (AHI is rarely over .9), so the machine is doing what is it intended to do. I had to come to terms with the fact I have an anxiety disorder and it interferes with my sleep. I don't know why I have it, I just do. I don't know of anything that I am anxious about, but my body seems to think it needs to be anxious. My doctor is helping to level those brain chemicals out. I have only been at it 3 weeks, but I finally got some decent sleep last night.

I have pretty terrible sleep, but it's not because of my CPAP. Without CPAP, I'd be permanently asleep (as in dead).

Part of it is menopause, part of it is stress, and part of it is because I have terrible sleep hygiene--I'm a life-long night owl who has to get up at the crack of dawn no matter how great and compelling whatever I thought about what I was doing at 12:30 a.m.

What I do know is my crappy sleep is not a missing drug. I do take some supplements that help, I'm supposed to be doing some mindfulness meditation (but don't), turn off the damn screens an hour before a decent bedtime, and getting to bed at a reasonable time (I don't).

But I still thank G-d for CPAP.

Why would you want to people that were unsuccessful with CPAP therapy...You are not going to get help or encouragement there.

CPAP fixes breathing issues, but that's all it fixes. If that's all that's wrong with you, that's fine. If you've got other problems... Then that's the "crap' you need to fix, and not be blaming CPAP for not being the end all be all of sleep magic.

welcome aboard! may i humbly suggest that if you want to improve your experience with your cpap that you give the experts here something to work with?

one of the very hardest things that *I* went through at first was getting over my mistaken impression that a cpap machine would be "one and done". in other words, if i just did what the doctor said, i'd adjust quickly and all would be good.

boy, was i wrong! what it took to get the better sleep was for me to exert myself and learn how to take control of my own therapy. i did that by relying heavily on the people here for help. you can do that, too, but the experts here will need some information from you.

if you want to get started, here is a link-

however, if you are just posting to vent, that's okay too. we've all been there and done that!

good luck!

Hi sissy63. Can you tell me what meds have been helping you for sleep anxiety? I have this, as well. I believe sleep anxiety comes from death anxiety. Going to sleep and staying asleep involves losing control and entering a lowered state of consciousness, and this is like dying every night.
