New--lots of questions

Post by antikmotorcycle » Thu Nov 29, 2018 12:45 pm

AHI is 57.
Max pressure prescribed by dr is 6.
Last night was my 1st night. Did almost 5hrs but got the red angry face.

Dr prescribed:

ResMed AirSense 10 CPAP Machine
Humidifier chamber
Climateline tubing
Medium Fisher and Paykel Simplus full face mask
Filters for the CPAP machine

Printed bill says: (non charge items not listed)

$300 ResMed AirSense 10 CPAP w/humidifier
$ 80 Tubing with integrated heating element
$545 Humidifier heated
$100 Headgear-basic
$ 5 Filter
$ 75 Water chamber
$225 Gen FF Mask

What I got at the appointment:

Resmed AirSense 10 CPAP
Climateline tubing
ResMed AirTouch F20 full face mask (medium)
Water tank
Filter

Previously asked dr office about differences: "when I spoke with company XYZ, they said the my prescription was for a Resmed AirSense 10 AutoPap. Is that the same as AirSense 10 CPAP?" Tech responded with "Yes those are both the same machine."

I went with a different company based on my location and better reviews from hospital staff I talked to. And now I have 10 CPAP instead of an 10 Autopap.

Anything wrong here?

Thanks for helping!

What is on the label on the machine? Probably on bottom so be sure humidifier tank is empty before looking.

They lied. They are NOT the same machine.

Well the first thing wrong is you didn't get what the doctor ordered.
The AirSense 10 CPAP can't do what the AirSense 10 AutoSet does...not by any stretch of the imagination.

Now insurance pays the same for either model...so in the insurance eyes they are the same machine in terms of allowed price.
So if the insurance allows say $800 total for a machine and the AirSense 10 CPAP (cheaper basic bare bones machine) costs them $400 and the AirSense 10 AutoSet costs them $600...guess which one they would rather supply to you and increase their profit margin.

Take it back. They didn't give you what the doctor ordered. It's no different than getting a prescription for an antibiotic and the pharmacy gives you a water pill instead...not what the doctor ordered.

The Apap version DOES do Cpap, but the Cpap version does not do Apap... be sure that you Don't have an Apap SET to Cpap mode before you rant at someone. :)

Take it back, (If it says "CPAP" on the front lower right corner.) it's junk.

Here's a list of machines, *insist* on full data, and Auto mode:

If I were in your position, I would also file a formal complaint with the state medical board. The DME is not filling prescriptions as ordered by the doctor. Who knows how many times they have gotten by with this action.

Awesome. Just make sure it says "Airsense 10 Autoset" on the front :) ie, don't trust the DME :)
