Headgear/ Nose Pillow help

Post by StormySands » Tue Nov 27, 2018 5:14 pm

Good day to everyone. Any guidance or suggestions appreciated.

Newbie to CPAP ~ 1 month.

I love (LOVE) the Nuance Pro nose pillows. Super comfy and great fit. Not loving the headgear.Gel pads irritate my cheeks and the backstrap does not fit my head. At all. In fact, the back strap doesn't even touch my head- I can slide my entire hand under it even though the nasal pillows are fitting perfect and so comfy. This design also places a little welcome pressure on my upper lip which is enough to help keep my mouth closed at night. Overall, a wonderful experience until I sleep and the masks shifts because it is not securing to my head in the back. Have not tried the Nuance Fabric headgear version.

I did try the ResMed Airfit P10 for Her nasal pillows. Pillows are painful. Places a lot of pressure on my nostrils and creates a "cabbage patch kid face" effect. My mouth opens with this design because it doesn't give that slight pressure in my upper lip. Not the ideal face fit, but the headgear fits my head and stays on.

How can I marry the experience of the nose pillows from the Nuance and the Headgear from the ResMed. This would be my perfect mask. Should I sew the backstrap to take up the slack? Does any similar mask system exist that won't need modification?

Thank you all in advance. :D

Wonder if adding some sort of strap padding on that back strap would be enough to take up the slack?
Something like this
https://www.padacheek.com/strap-pads-special-shapes
You could also probably find one that would cover the gel thingies on the side so they aren't so annoying.
Those might even be a simple DIY project if you are handy like that.

I have married some masks but nothing with the Nuance being involved and I don't have one now to play with to see what I could come up with. Right now I can't think of a way to marry the P10 headgear to the gel pillows.

If adding padding still doesn't make it snug enough...I would get a spare headgear (EBay might be a good cheap source) so that you have a spare just in case surgery isn't successful and I would cut the offending strap...remove a section and add stick on Velcro for closure and adjustibility. I would do the surgery on the older headgear though...save new for just in case surgery is a failure.

These are good suggestions- thank you. I think I will try the pad a cheek and see if that will take up enough slack. If not, surgery it is.....*insert evil laugh here*. I love the velcro idea- I would have never thought of that. I tried attaching hair clips to hold it in place. Totally not a good plan. In case anyone asks.
