Damn prescription

Post by Jerseyguy » Mon Nov 19, 2018 3:42 pm

So I stepped on my mask this morning and I thought I broke it but one of the pieces just popped out. In that moment I realized, uh I need a backup for this. So I called my DME because I'm entitled to a replacement mask and they said my prescription expired. Does the prescription expire after a year? They are calling my doc to get it renewed but I hate all this stuff. I long for the days when I could just brush my teeth and go to bed

Most prescriptions last as long as the machine. Often when you get a new machine, a new prescription is required. Check Amazon..no prescription required.

When you get a prescription, send a copy to our hosts, CPAP.com. They keep it on file and you are good to order.

Guys, he's talking about a mask, not a machine.

everybody's talking about a mask. in most cases you ask for a mask, dme asks dr for a prescription, dr sends prescription and you get a mask and don't know a prescription was involved. this one was different because the dme asked the patient for a prescription.

Just get spare parts on eBay and Amazon, probably cheaper.

My sleep doctor wrote me a certificate of necessity and a lifetime prescription for machines-masks-hoses-etc. as needed. Maybe your Dr. can do the same for you. EDIT: Some are also written for a period of 99 years...

The problem is that I need to use my insurance, as money is tight. I also don't have my actual prescription but that wouldn't matter much as I don't have the money. I know I know I need to get one once it gets rewritten I'll call and get the doc to send it to me. The parts idea isn't bad, perhaps I'll look into that.

Sleep Doctors or in my case an ENT (it was an emergency and every one I called said I can see you in 2 to 3 months). I guess just want the yearly office visit.

Funny story my old DME didn't do anything to help me with my compliance, so when they said your insurance isn't going to pay for the rental, I said well I don't have the money, they shrugged and I was forced to give it back, recently I got a recorded call from them asking how I was doing. They didn't care before, I asked for help during the complience period and they didn't care

Unless you have *excellent* insurance, it may still be cheaper through ebay/amazon.

In my situation now I do I had a low maximum out of pocket and a high cost of my Psoriasis meds so thru the end of the year I pay nothing. I assume that come the end of February I'll be back to paying nothing.

Many states, by law, restrict prescriptions to one year. Some have 2 years. My state no longer accepts lifetime or 99 month prescriptions - it is invalid after 1 year. So yeah, it's pretty common. There has been discussion, although I don't have a link, that Medicare now requires an annual prescription for supplies. If this is true, then I wouldn't be surprised if insurers are following that.

At this time, the online retailers I have dealt with, including cpap.com, use your prescription forever even if it states right on the prescription that it expires after 1 year. I suppose since they don't deal with either Medicare or insurance, that they don't get audited for that. My guess anyway.

I too miss the days when all I had to do was brush my teeth and fill the kibble bowl before bed. It takes me 40 minutes to get ready for bed as I'm a caregiver for bro plus have other medical issues.

one of the things I have going for me... is I don't "Miss the days were I could..." I wish I could just lay down and sleep... but it's not like I ever in my memory slept well.

I remember what my sleep was like before CPAP which was (insert "Colorful metaphor" here) I do have a longing for a day when I don't have to mask up but I'm happy with my current setup at the moment and how it lets me keep breathing.

I wish you all the best and good luck with pushing through the "Script requirements" Hope your able to get what you need quickly.

Restwell,

Gryphon

I had a new prescription when I got my last machine almost 5 years ago. I have been getting my supplies since then without question. I don't have a doctor monitoring my usage every year either. I have been on Medicare/ Medicare Complete for 12 years.

Just an update I received my new mask, new hose, filters and cushion since I was entitled. I guess my insurance is pretty good because they sent me not one but six eson2 cushions. I'll wait until the EOB comes that confirms my benefit before using any of them.
