Thanks to all the Veterans

Post by LSAT » Sun Nov 11, 2018 6:08 am

On this Veterans day take a few minutes to think about all the vets that fought for our freedoms.

I second that.
My parents met at the USO.

It was about 1935 and I was in the second grade when I first heard, "...the eleventh hour, of the eleventh day, of the eleventh month..." We were memorializing the War that ended all wars. I was in a huge school. Someone out in the vestibule payed taps on the trumpet. Then someone repeated it far away. It's like it happened yesterday, the memory is so vivid.

But when I was 17 years old I became an aviation cadet and joined the war effort. Guess the War to end all wars didn't work. <sigh> Nor did No. Two, because I was in the Korea mess as well. Seems we never learn....

We come from a military family... grandfather and father in law 1st WW, Dad in the second, husband was in the navy and son was in the air force. My dad volunteered in Ottawa and was sent to England in Dec of 1939, from there he was all over the European front up until it ended. He met my mom while posted to England and hence.... ME  . We attend special services every year as a family and thank all those that fought to keep us all safe from harm. Our prayers are definitely with those families of soldiers that did not return.

You are entirely welcome LSAT (and all), and thanks for YOUR service!

For some history, both grandfathers, Dad, 3 uncles, 2 brothers and I, 2 daughters and 2 nephews have worn the Uniform (2 still serving). The two daughters and nephs were all Academy grads. I could not be prouder of a family.

And, for my fellow Vets and Actives, family members of same, and to all those who value military service to our Fine Country, thank YOU!

Thank you for the service of you and your family. I was thinking yesterday as the Google Doodle for US & Canada focused only on the US stories how narrow sighted many here in the US are.
I am originally from Canada and learned to appreciate the Canadian sacrifice at Vimy Ridge as well as UK greats such as Winston Churchill. Here in Virginia we do not hear of that.
