Bumped up pressure after 2 years

Post by bigfrank99 » Mon Oct 29, 2018 4:54 pm

I'm 67 years old and have been on cpap for more than 3 years. I struggle with insomnia also. One week ago my condition started to get worse until 2 days ago when I was so severely sleep deprived that I could not function and started to slip into a depression. Bumped my pressure from 11.0 to 13.0. As usual, I got 2.5 hrs sleep and was awake for the rest of the day....Then last night I got 2 sleeps for 2.5 hrs each and am back to "normal". Checked out my numbers for first time in a year and found that there was no problem. It seems that even though numbers remained the same, my sleep quality deteriorated to the point I could not function. I'm fine today and will keep 13.0 setting.

Of course we all have different experiences with this cpap crap, how I feel is the real gauge of my cpap effectivness.

Not going to go thru numbers...just wanted to share ....

Thanks for listening

Frank

Often how you feel is the best measurement of success.
Data helps narrow down why.
Shame on any provider who denies us OUR data.

Yes, Even though I have relatively low numbers at 9 pressure (around .9 AHI), for me bumping it up to 14 greatly increased my restedness and general well being. I think it's because Apnea's were preventing me from ever getting into a truly deep sleep, at 14 the apnea's were more limited and I was able to get into a deeper sleep without apnea's taking me out of the sleep, so the higher pressure limited the apnea's rather then rousing limiting the apneas... The numbers were both "good" but limiting the apnea's via more pressure was better for me. (am at 0 to .2 AHI now).
Instead of Sleep apnea it should be called "Sleep deprivation, starving of oxygen, being poisoned by high CO2 levels, damaging the body and brain while it's supposed to be healing so that you constantly get worse and can never get healthy Apnea"

The stats from the current crop of CPAP machines are very good.

However, they do not tell the whole story! Thus, if the bump upwards is working for you, that's great!
