Please recommend where to try APAP masks in Toronto, Canada?

Post by antinatalism » Mon Oct 29, 2018 11:27 am

1. My mom, diagnosed with sleep apnoea by Dr. David Kanawaty, lives in Toronto. But he didn't recommend where to try masks, or what mask fits her?

2. Does she need to try machines in person? She needs a machine that befits her frequent traveling.

My mom and I read reviews of APAP machines (https://www.tuck.com/cpap-machine-reviews) that recommend Philips Respironics's DreamStation (https://www.philips.ca/healthcare/produ ... eamstation). As we've only heard of Philips from their other appliances and never heard of, say, ResMed (https://www.sleeprestfully.com/blog/bes ... ines-2018/) before I Googled, brand recognition sways us to Philips. But please recommend other machines too.

I believe that most CPAP Talk forum members would likely prefer Resmed Airsense 10 Autoset or Resmed Airsense 10 Autoset for Her (same unit, different colour, with an extra mode) over the Philips Respironics Dreamstation Auto as an APAP device.

Your DME/sleep clinic is where one mostly test out different masks....very subjective IMO.

You need to try masks in person - everyone's face is different and every mask different... if it's for a full face one, she needs to be lying down when trying it, as faces change a lot then. Start out here -

but you don't 'try' machines in person... not unless you sleep a whole night at the dealer's

and good luck!

Just to clarify, any mask can be used with any APAP, Bi-PAP, CPAP, or ASV machine. There might be some oddball exceptions, but these are very rare!

I was sent to a sleep clinic up in the finch and dufferin area...on 2 Champagne drive. Brand new facility sort of like a shopping mall of doctor and lawyer services. Dr Pearl was the Dr that I saw and there is a cpap store right next door....very convenient. They will let you test out all sorts of different masks before final purchase. Canadian Home healthcare inc they have 7 locations in the GTA

How was she diagnosed? Overnight sleep study? At home sleep study? Or just a guess at the office visit? Was she given a recommended pressure?
