CPAP use after septoplasty, turbinate reduction surgery?

Post by WarpedTrekker » Thu Oct 18, 2018 9:09 am

Has anyone had their deviated septum (septoplasty) and turbinate reduction and was able to use their CPAP the same night?

I'm currently scheduled next week for the procedure. My ENT doctor claims he is OK with me trying it. But from all the videos I've seen, there may be major nasal congestion. I use a FF mask.

Several years ago I was told to refrain from CPAP for 5-7 days. Depends on how the procedure is done and whether the nose is packed or not. I resumed after 3 days at a reduced pressure...Didn't change my CPAP use...just helped with breathing.

I've been thinking about Turbinate reduction myself. Wish you luck, let us know how it goes. I hd a tonsillectomy two weeks ago, they had me stay on CPAP during recovery.

Gramps had septum correction and all six turbinates reduced surgically. He never missed a night of CPAP. He uses a FFM and did more mouthbreathing during the three nights before the doc took the clips out. YMMV.

BTW, he says the surgery was one of the best things he ever did for himself.
