Dry mouth with Amara Full view

Post by zinnia » Sat Oct 13, 2018 2:56 pm

Hello, I was wearing a nasal mask originally and it always made my mouth extrremely dry. I was told I must be mouth breathing. So I switched to a full mask, the Amara which I find comfortable but I wake up a few times with no moisture in my mouth. MY AIR shows no leakage. Any sugggestions?

hello! this won't fix what's causing your dry mouth(i'll leave that to smarter folk here!) but it will help alleviate it.

xylimelts is a small lozenge you can use before going to sleep. this lozenge fits between teeth and cheek. it melts slowly overnight to help promote saliva.

find it in the oral hygene section of your drug or grocery store. this works very well for me and i hope it can work for you.

Full face masks aren't guaranteed to fix dry mouth. All they do is reduce therapy loss if someone is doing a lot of mouth breathing and using a nasal mask. Are you sure your dry mouth was from mouth breathing with the nasal mask? Did you ever tape your mouth just to see if it helped with the leak report or the dry mouth?

Some people just get a dry mouth worse than others for any number of reasons. Medication side effects or other health issues or just unlucky.
Even if the humidifier is cranking out as much moisture as it can at the highest setting it isn't always enough moisture to rehydrate the mouth. The oral cavity is much larger than the nasal cavity and these humidifiers were really designed to help hydrate the nasal cavity.

If you are using a relatively low humidity setting you might try a higher setting and see if more moisture is enough to relieve the dry mouth but just realize that it might not be enough (worth trying though) and if it isn't then you get to use one of those products out there designed to help dry mouth. We have a lot of full face mask users here who also use some sort of dry mouth product.

I have same problem and only solution for me is taping your mouth shut.

According to your wife...that is the preferred solution.

All kidding aside...taping to prevent mouth breathing only works to fix dry mouth when the dry mouth is SOLELY caused by mouth breathing. Remember there are other causes for dry mouth besides mouth breathing. Taping won't do much for those causes.
My thought about taping and any full face mask...why do both unless you just want to for whatever reason.
