Do I have to lug this thing to ItalY? Any other options (like the mini cpap that fits in your nose ring)?
My machine, a 2 yr old Phillips, has developed a low murmur that varies slightly with pressure as I breathe. Sometimes it keeps me awake. I changed the filter to no avail.
I don't clean it every day or every week. It doesn't show debris or even smell. I do clean it occasionally. I change the distilled water every 2 days.
I used 2b here but had to reregister because of login failures.
How is everyone this fine morning? Raining here.

Sounds reasonable. You may have problems finding distilled water in italy, just use tap water, and rinse it out every day. Use vinegar or citric acid occasionally to dissolve any mineral buildup.

I don't know exactly which machine you have but I've traveled extensively with four different CPAP machines since 2000. This includes two trips to Italy. There was no such thing as a travel machine back then. Also, I find that travel machines are noisier and do not have a humidification chamber (or aren't much smaller if they do).

Although the voltage in Italy is different that the U.S., almost all CPAP machines on the market are compatible with the voltage in Europe (and just about anywhere else in the world). You'll need to verify this, but I'd be very surprised if it's not the case.

The caveat is that your flat plug will not fit into the round holes found in Italian electrical sockets. You''ll need an adapter (not a converter). A typical Italian socket is shown below. The middle pin is the ground, so if you have a two prong plug, you can use an adapter that ignores the center hole.

If I did a lot of travelling, I would consider maybe placing my machine in my suitcase and surround/situate the machine with clothes to pad and protect the machine. That would be one less bag to carry. But, since my machine has added probably 10 to 15 years to my life, it is worthy of carrying it in it's case.

I have traveled with my full Dreamstation setup twice and it's a bit of a pain. On the plane it is only counted as a personal bag, not the carry on. Once I used it's carrying case with the strap, and the other time I packed inside my backpack, flew 18 hours and lugged it with me all up and down the Phillipines for a week. Doable, but not recommended. What I would not do (personal pref) is pack in checked luggage, there is no way in hell I'm chancing the loss of my machine to the airline. If I were to travel anymore than once or twice every other year, I'd look into a mini pap of some kind combined with a good battery. From the bit of research I did last year, seems like you can find both for $600 - $700 total.

It is good to remind peple that you should NEVER leave your cpap at home.
No excuses.
If buying a tiny travel machine will do the trick, it is worth it.
You cannot get your holiday back if you felt too lousy to enjoy it.

As soon as I got home, I did buy a travel CPAP, which packs in a softside lunchbox. It fits easily in my tote or backpack (personal item) if no carryon or carryon if I don't have a personal item. It varies by trip. We travel internationally several times a year, so it's worth it to me.

Thank you for this information. What a pain though. My husband and I are headed to Greece and surrounding areas for 2 weeks at the end of March. I'm planning on packing it in my luggage, but that's a lot of 1) weight and 2) space (fewer cute outfits!). Still not digging this imposed therapy even though I know it's most likely saving my life.
