CPAP increasing pressure on me while I am awake?
CPAP increasing pressure on me while I am awake?
Does anyone here know the behavior of a Resmed Airsense 10 Autoset reagrding why it is increasing air pressure on me while I am awake and breathing normally? I masked up and was reading on my phone and over a span of 15 minutes that I could feel the pressure increasing slowly. I start out at 9 and as I type this question it is rising to 11.
I do not have ramp enabled and my min pressure is 9.
Thanks

If you look at your data from the period, you'll see the breathing abnormalities that the machine is responding to.
Awake breathing is typically very irregular, unlike sleep breathing, and the machines are only designed for sleep breathing. awake breathing confuses them.

I noticed this when I first got my IntelliPap Auto. Was a little concerned as it was my first APAP machine, until someone explained it to meCPAPSteve wrote: ↑Mon Sep 17, 2018 12:38 amDoes anyone here know the behavior of a Resmed Airsense 10 Autoset reagrding why it is increasing air pressure on me while I am awake and breathing normally? Lol sounds like what my kids say to me when I play with them. “Dad you’re playing it wrong!”palerider wrote: ↑Mon Sep 17, 2018 12:52 amStop breathing badly.CPAPSteve wrote: ↑Mon Sep 17, 2018 12:38 amDoes anyone here know the behavior of a Resmed Airsense 10 Autoset reagrding why it is increasing air pressure on me while I am awake and breathing normally? Normally I mask up before bedtime and fall asleep pretty quick but there are some days where I know I’d be reading and would just randomly fall asleep and forget to mask up.
No cause for concern really - I just wanted to know why pressures were increasing while awake.
Thanks

A good way to confirm your machine works . . .

Same thing happens to me. My awake breathing registers FLs and the machine responds accordingly.

Pretty much .... lol
Correct, no cause for concern, at all...CPAPSteve wrote: ↑Mon Sep 17, 2018 8:29 amNormally I mask up before bedtime and fall asleep pretty quick but there are some days where I know I’d be reading and would just randomly fall asleep and forget to mask up.

Do continue to mask up when you get in bed before starting to read. (I do it most every night). Because, like you said, you drift off while reading, you need the mask on.

Re: CPAP increasing pressure on me while I am awake?
It's pretty common to stop breathing or hold your breath while awake, before drifting off to sleep. The machine sort of startles you when the pressure ramps up and it reminds you to take a breath. Has happened to me a bunch.

I would’ve though that in bed my breathing would be fairly consistent but clearly it wasn’t.
I will continue on with my routine as usual. Thanks.

You're only here because you failed "Breathing 101".
