What info must be contained in the apap prescription...

I tried a search on this, but was unsuccessful in finding the information.

I am going to have my doc write me a prescription for a apap machine next week. In order for a internet cpap company to accept this, what info must be in the prescription.

For example:
Must it say autopap, or is any cpap prescription enough?
Does my pressure setting need to be in the prescription(I would think so)?

What else do I need in and with the prescription?
(maybe a copy of my sleep study).

It appears that a new remstar autopap is around a grand. If I can't get my doc to get me one, I'll probably just get one myself. So far this cpap thing has been a big bust for me. I've decided to do what I can to take over my own treatment as much as possible.

Call cpap.com and talk to them. They will take a straight cpap prescription. All mine said was "cpap at 12 cm".

changed from a "straight" CPAP, set at 12. I wanted and rather DEMANDED an autopap so the dr. rewrote it to say APAP with a range from 8-12. The
low setting of 8 was too high so my DME got the RT's ''ok'' at the doc's office to lower it.
Before anyone tells me about changing the settings myself I do know....

I think it is great for anyone to take over the responsibility for treatment of their sleep apnea.

I requested a prescription from my primary care doctor.
Resmed Spirit Autopap with heated humidifier
Range from 6-20

You may have to move the lower pressure up if you feel that you are not getting enough air.

Some people choose to lower the upper pressure, but I run mine at 9-20.
The pressures can be changed easily using the buttons under the lcd.

I believe that you arei the best judge of what pressures give us the best night sleep. The autopaps will adjust the pressures if you need a change while you are aslleeep. It is also great to just press the buttons and see the number of apneas and hypopneas that happened during the previous night.
