Hi Everyone,
As I've posted previously I've been disagnosed for 10 years with OSA. Weight has fluctated over the years and my fixed pressure has along with it (12-17.5 cmH20) self adjusted.
My therapy has never been 100% effective but it was enough to get by with CPAP.
I'm in the process of losing weight, down from 26 stone to 23 stone currently with probably another 9 or so to go. I've previously lost 11 stone when I was first diagnosed with OSA and was able to happily reduce my pressure down to 6 cmH20 as the weight came off. This time it's different. As the weight has come off I've started swallowing air as I fall asleep and wake up with a super dry mouth, signs I felt of too high a pressure. The strange thing is, if I reduce my fixed pressure even slightly I can feel it negatively the next day (headaches, fatigue, anxiety).
Spoke to my 'sleep clinic' (I'm being very generous in that description) and they've issued me with an APAP.
The APAP is not SD capable so I only have my Smartcode info to go on and it's suggesting that on a range of 10 - 18 cmH20 my 95% is 14 cmH20. The problem is I feel destroyed in the morning when I use the machine in APAP mode. I've tried shortening the range but still the same. I set it to CPAP @ 15.5 cmH20 fixed last night for 3 hours and it's the best I've felt in months. I don't feel 100% but so much better than on APAP.
So that's a long way of asking: Why am I feeling better on CPAP than APAP ? And why is neither working 100% ?
I realise without proper data this is almost an impossible question but thank you for reading anyway.
Below is the SmartCode data from befor elast night's CPAP use...

Re: Feel better on CPAP than APAP
Maybe you are one of the people who find that the slight variations in pressure when in auto/apap mode is a disturbing factor to their overall sleep quality and they just feel better when using fixed pressures.
Some people do notice a definite difference in how they feel with the 2 different modes.
Don't worry about it...be thankful you feel better and run with it in cpap mode. Whatever works for you is the most important thing.

Thanks Pugsy
I think that's what I'll have to do and hope the rest takes care of itself as I lose more weight.
I think the EPR from this new APAP machine is helping with the aerophagia to a adegree so that's a positive.
