Dry mouth

Post by bexflx » Fri Jul 06, 2018 1:13 pm

I am a new cpap user. I use the camera view mask. My issue is extreme dry mouth. Any suggestions to alleviate?

I use a room humidifier in addition to the built-in humidifier on the machine.

Some mornings, I have to open my mouth fully like a fish to start to try to get it back to normal. But with both the CPAP and room humidifier on, that's rare.

I'd suggest getting tested for Sjogren's too.

GC Dry Mouth Gel is Sodium Carboxyl Methyl Cellulose < 5% gel with water.

$15 per pound at AmaXon.com. https://www.amazon.com/Carboxy-Methyl-C ... B00SI5BZXK

At 0.05 w/w, a pound makes twenty pounds of gel. The trick is getting it mixed. It will only mix with cold water and then only with difficulty as the gel forms around the particles preventing further water contact. The solution is to disperse the Methyl Cellulose in HOT water, with which it will NOT mix, cool the mixture to where the MC is soluble, and mix while adding water to the desired concentration.

ETA much later: LOL LOL LOL. CMC-NA is the major ingredient in KY (surgical) Jelly. Following that hint, I found that chlorhexidine gluconate is included in the OTC K-Y NG formulation. Chlorhexidine gluconate by Hibiclens is my preferred antiseptic skin cleanser.
