Okay here is my question when I sleep on my side air enters my stomach bloats my stomach at the center of my rib cage hard as a rock if I do not lie on my back and push on are bloated area of my stomach to excel this air out it gets into my stomach and gives me stomach ache cramps. what is the cause of this ? Do I need to see a pulmonologist and get a new sleep study? Also what does epr do? my current setting epr is set on 2. it seems to be worse bloating on my stomach when my epr was set at 3

Thanks but does epr level have any effect?
Re: Stomach gets air from lying on side
with all due respect to chunky frog, guess we're still waiting for the smart people.
![Laughing ](./images/smilies/icon_lol.gif)
epr is supposed to have an effect. and this is why i was waiting for someone smarter to come by and explain it. i can only talk from my experience, which as i understand it, is pretty much the opposite of most people.
i actually turned it off. i also lowered my minimum pressure. the gas pains went away immediately. and eventually, my ahi lowered as well.
i'm not stating this as though i'm giving you my expert opinion from on high. not even saying it would work for you. but you might want to try it.
meanwhile, my response will bump this up to the top and maybe someone with the knowledge will talk about it!

Re: Stomach gets air from lying on side
EPR drops the pressure when you exale, by 1 cm for every number it's set to.
What effect it will have on *YOU* is something you'll have to determine.
For many people, the lower pressure makes it easier to exhale, and will help relieve air swallowing, since the pressure drops.

hummer3d,
Just a question of curiosity: Did this ever come up before in the ten years you have been a member here?

Re: Stomach gets air from lying on side
Yes I have had a problem over last two years with my stomach inflating while using CPAP it seems to be worse if I lie on my side while CPAP is operating I noticed this with my ResMed S7 CPAP I recently switched to an S9 Auto set CPAP problem is a little better but still there
Re: Stomach gets air from lying on side
I see where you posted about this a few years ago. Do you notice a difference between sides? I do. And even whether I keep my shoulder up or rolled almost all the way over (which is better). Sometimes it is a trial and error thing, but you've probably already done that. It can be a balancing act between effective therapy with minimal side effects. Some choose to accept a slightly higher AHI if it means fewer side effects. Hopefully you can find your balance.

Re: Stomach gets air from lying on side
You broke the Rules by making more than one chance at a time, and guessing the results from it. By turning off EPR. you increase the chance of bloating, you reduced the pressure too, that would help the bloating, you will have less bloating if you sleep with the input to the stomach is on the high side, the input valve isn't seating well, acid does that. Re: Stomach gets air from lying on side
When it bothered me, the best position was on my left side--the worst was on my back.
Using EPR helped, but eventually I didn't need it.
