Are there any "old timers" who had a tracheotomy prior to CPAP?

Post by D.H. » Wed Jun 13, 2018 3:54 pm

This would mean that sometime before the mid-1990's when CPAP became widely available, you had a tracheotomy to treat Sleep Apnea. It was the "gold standard" for the treatment of Obstructive Sleep Apnea before CPAP took over that spot.

So I'm wondering if anybody on this forum had a Tracheotomy reversed, and now uses CPAP instead.

He could Google it, but that would be too easy--and would annoy nobody.

If Google would only talk back to him, wait it will on Android. Jim

Until it learns better.

I'll bet there weren't many back then had it done, people were smarter back then.

I wasn't able to find any instances of this on google. I was hoping there would be somebody here.

I don't know of anyone here that has had a trach reversal.
I do know of one forum member who tried for the longest to make cpap work for her and couldn't and she elected to have the trach.
She stopped by and told us about it and she was happy with her decision. I forget her name and it's been 2 or 3 years probably since she came by to tell us about getting the trach. She's not very active here now.

Thanks. That's kind of the reverse of what I was looking for. In some cases, they still need to do this. It's an effective treatment for OSA, but does nothing for CSA. It's rather drastic, so I don't think doctors or patients want to try it first.

I think a tourniquet would be better for him... preferably around the neck.

DH is a blithering idiot... he's always posting stupid stuff, wrong stuff, garbage stuff... he thinks he knows everything, but he's wrong far more often than he's right.

True, once in a blue moon, he'll post something that's not just total garbage, but it's not worth trying to sift the wheat from the chaff, as they say.
